Los Angeles FC forward Diego Rossi was named the inaugural winner of the MLS Young Player of the Year award on Monday.

The 22-year-old Uruguay native won the 2020 Golden Boot with a league-leading 14 goals and added four assists in 19 games. He is the youngest player in MLS history to finish a season as top goal scorer.

The MLS Young Player of the Year Award, which replaces the rookie-of-the-year honor, recognizes the top 22-and-under player in the league as voted on by MLS players, club technical staff and media members.

Rossi received 29.1 percent of the votes to finish just ahead of Philadelphia Union midfielder Brenden Aaronson (28.9 percent), with Orlando City SC forward Daryl Dike finishing third (10.8 percent).
