Los Angeles FC forward Carlos Vela has been voted the 2019 MLS Most Valuable Player award after a record-breaking season.
Vela, 30, earned 69.6 percent of the vote to easily outdistance Zlatan Ibrahimovic of the LA Galaxy (14.1 percent) and Atlanta United's Josef Martinez, the 2018 MVP, with 7.0 percent.
Vela, who broke the single-season league records for goals (34) and for combined goals and assists (49), helped LAFC claim the Supporters' Shield with a league-record 72 points.
Vela, in his second season in the league, is the first Mexican player to win the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award. He had 14 goals and 13 assists in 2018.
