MLS teams prepare for CONCACAF Champions League

At least four MLS teams will take part in the CONCACAF Champions League, with games set to begin April 6, as part of a Round of 16 schedule released Thursday.

The Portland Timbers, Atlanta United, Columbus Crew and Philadelphia Union all are set to take part in the tourney. Toronto FC also could qualify, but it will have to defeat Forge FC in the Canadian Championship Final.

The reigning CONCACAF Champions League winners, Tigres of Mexico, did not qualify for the 2021 field.

The Round of 16 games will wrap up April 15. The first leg of the quarterfinals is set for April 27-29, with the second leg set for May 4-6.

After an extended break, the tournament will pick up again with the semifinals from Aug. 10-12 (first leg) and Sept. 14-16 (second leg).

The championship final is set for Oct. 26-28.

In addition to the MLS clubs, Champions League competitors include Cruz Azul, Club Leon, CF Monterrey, Real Esteli FC and others.
