No woman has won three World Cups, but Alex Morgan hopes to be among the first in 2023.
Fresh off winning her second World Cup, Morgan said recently she intends to go for the trifecta.
"For me, I want another World Cup," Morgan said on her ESPN+ series. "Four more years!"
Morgan was a co-captain of this year's team and figures to have some holdovers from the 2015 and 2019 squads also shooting for an unprecedented third title.
The U.S. team is set to play Ireland on Saturday, but Morgan won't be on the field due to what coach Jill Ellis called a minor injury. She's expected to return to the Orlando Pride of the NWSL soon.
Morgan, who will be 34 when the next World Cup kicks off, scored six goals during the team's recent title run in France and has 107 international goals to her credit.
