The World Cup champion U.S. women's national team will have three new players in addition to a new coach for its upcoming friendly games.
Vlatko Andonovski, in his first week after replacing Jill Ellis as coach, announced that goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe and defenders Alana Cook and Imani Dorsey will join the team for games vs. Sweden on Nov. 7 in Columbus, Ohio, and vs. Costa Rica on Nov. 10 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Another uncapped player, forward Margaret Purce, will be on the team, too. She has been in previous USWNT camps but has yet to appear in a game.
The U.S. roster will be missing two of the stars from this summer's World Cup triumph in France. Megan Rapinoe, the winner of the World Cup's Golden Boot (MVP) and Golden Ball (top scorer), is sidelined due to an injury, and World Cup Silver Ball winner (MVP runner-up) Alex Morgan is sitting out due to her pregnancy.
Also missing from the World Cup squad due to injuries are Kelley O'Hara, Crystal Dunn, Ali Krieger and Tierna Davidson.
"Mostly, this is a great opportunity for me to get to know the players, get to know the system, and start building relationships," Andonovski said in a statement released by U.S. Soccer. "If there is one goal that I want to accomplish in this first camp is to change the focus from the World Cup and the Victory Tour.
"It was a tremendous summer for this team, but now the approach is different. We have new goals and the most important thing is to shift the mentality and start moving forward because Olympic qualifying is just around the corner."
