New York City FC head coach Dome Torrent is expected to step down from his position with one year remaining on his contract, ESPN reported Tuesday.
NYCFC led the Eastern Conference with 64 points and an 18-10-6 record but was eliminated from the MLS playoffs by Toronto FC in the conference semifinals. Toronto FC advanced to Sunday's MLS Cup final, where it will face the Seattle Sounders.
The report said Torrent is in the process of finalizing his decision with NYCFC officials and that moving to another MLS franchise is not out of the question. He also has options to coach in the Middle East.
Torrent spent more than a decade as an assistant coach for highly regarded European head coach Pep Guardiola, who is the head man at Manchester City.
Torrent took over at NYCFC during the 2018 season. The team finished third in the Eastern Conference last season with 56 points.
