The Philadelphia Union liked what they saw in Jamiro Monteiro and are set to permanently acquire the midfielder on a club-record $1.7 million transfer fee that could rise to $2 million with incentives, reported.

Monteiro, 26, was on four-month loan with the Union in 2019, collecting four goals with nine assists in 26 games.

Philadelphia went 16-10-7 after his arrival and finished third in the Eastern Conference before losing to Atlanta United FC in the conference semifinals. The Union secured a club record 55 points.

The deal will make Monteiro a designated player for the Union after he played last season on loan from French Ligue 2 side FC Metz. He also has three years of experience in his native Netherlands. He has played five games internationally for his parents' native country, Cape Verde.

The team's previous record club record for a transfer fee was the $1 million it paid to acquire current captain Alejandro Bedoya in 2016.
