The New England Revolution acquired Argentine forward Gustavo Bou from Liga MX's Club Tijuana on Wednesday.
Goal reported the transfer fee to be between $6-7 million. The Boston Globe reported the transfer fees and guaranteed salary to be about $12 million, with bonuses and options potentially pushing the cost to more than $16 million.
Bou will be the team's second Designated Player, joining Spanish midfielder Carles Gil.
Bou, 29, spent the previous two seasons with Tijuana. In 55 appearances, he scored 21 goals and dished 14 assists.
Before that, Bou played with Racing Club in Argentina, where he had 44 goals and 19 assists in 102 appearances.
"Gustavo is a versatile, creative forward with a proven history of success who will bring a high level of experience and leadership to the roster," Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a statement.
The Revolution are 6-8-5 on the season, tied for the seventh and final spot in the Eastern Conference with Toronto FC with 23 points. Toronto holds the tiebreaker edge because of a better goal differential.
