The New England Revolution signed free-agent midfielder Emmanuel Boateng on Thursday.

Terms were not disclosed.

Boateng, who turns 27 on Jan. 17, won the 2020 MLS Cup in his lone season with the Columbus Crew following stints with D.C. United (2019-20) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (2016-19). D.C. traded him to Columbus last August.

He had one assist in 10 games last season, all for the Crew, and has nine goals and 14 assists in 121 career MLS matches (68 starts).

"Ema Boateng is an experienced left-footed attacking player with very good pace. He is comfortable playing on the flanks, which is an area where he can help improve our team," Revs head coach Bruce Arena said in a news release. "Ema's character and professionalism will be welcomed additions to our team, and we look forward to his arrival in Foxborough."

Born in Ghana, Boateng attended high school in California and was named the 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year before attending UC Santa Barbara and earning Big West Freshman of the Year honors. He began his professional career in Sweden in 2013.
