Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from this month's season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London because of an abdominal injury.
In addition to the latest injury, which caused the Spanish star to pull out of last week's Paris Masters tournament, Nadal said he will have a minor operation on his ankle.
"This way I hope to be in full condition for next season," the world No. 2 wrote in a series of messages posted Monday on his Twitter feed.
Nadal, who lost his No. 1 world ranking to Novak Djokovic on Monday, will be replaced in the eight-man field in London by American John Isner. The tournament begins Sunday.
Nadal, 32, finished his 2018 season with a 45-4 record and five titles, including his 17th Grand Slam championship at the French Open.
