Well, it looks like the MLB season will be a go after the players and owners finally came to an agreement.
One of the fun MLB futures markets we haven’t looked at yet is pitcher win leaders. BetOnline has both the American League and National League priced up for this market. We’ll look at both.
First though, let’s recap last season briefly.
Justin Verlander (21 Wins) and Gerrit Cole (20 Wins) were the only two pitchers to have 20+ wins last season. Zack Greinke (18 Wins) and Stephen Strasburg (18 Wins) led the NL in wins in 2019.
This season will be a lot different, though. First off, how many games will each pitcher pitch? If the shortened season is nearing conclusion, will teams in the playoff hunt start shortening the rotation?

2020 American League Pitcher Win Leaders
Three pitchers in the AL are paying less than 10/1 to have the most regular season wins.
Gerrit Cole (+225) is the overwhelming favorite. Justin Verlander (+500) and Shane Bieber (+800) are the other two pitchers priced under 10/1. All three are definitely top contenders in the AL.
However, with a shortened season, there’s going to potentially be a better chance at an underdog winning the most regular season games, so I’d rather go with a pitcher paying above 10/1 odds.
Best Bet: Eduardo Rodriguez (+2500) at BetOnline
My pick in the AL is Eduardo Rodriguez at 25/1 odds. He finished 2019 with 19 wins, only two behind Cole for first place in the majors. The Red Sox had a tough off-season, though.
They didn’t just lose Mookie Betts to the Dodgers. Rick Porcello and David Price are gone and then Chris Sale had to undergo Tommy John surgery. That leaves Rodriguez as the ace in Boston.
That’s why I’m betting on him to be the regular season win leader in the American League.
Rodriguez pitched 203.3 innings in 2019 and had a career-best 3.81 ERA.
Boston have very little pitching depth and losing Betts hurts the offense. The Red Sox still have a lot of power in the line-up though, and while I believe they’ll regress even more in 2020, they’re going to need to win as many games when Rodriguez is on the mound, as there’s not much behind him.
2020 National League Pitcher Win Leaders
The National League is extremely tight and a number of pitchers could end up with the most regular season wins.
Every pitcher is paying 8/1 odds or higher.
Clayton Kershaw (+800), Max Scherzer (+800), Walker Buehler (+800) and Jack Flaherty (+900) are the only four pitchers paying less than 10/1 odds. All four our top contenders in this market, but I’m going with a pitcher that was great last season and should be even better in 2020.
Best Bet: Mike Soroka (+1600) at BetOnline
At just 21-years-old, Soroka went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He struck out 142 batters in 174 innings and this season he’s expected to open the season as the Braves ace.
Atlanta are favored to win the NL East and I picked them to win the division in a previous article.
If Soroka can reach six wins in the shortened season, he’ll have a great chance to win.
The Braves added Marcell Ozuna to replace Josh Donaldson as the clean-up hitter. The Braves are going to have one of the best offenses in the majors and will provide lots of run support.
