2021 French Open Women’s Final Picks and Betting Odds

It has been an absolutely crazy French Open for the women. No. 1 seed Ashleigh Barty aggravated a left hip injury and was forced to retire in her second-round match. No. 2 seed Naomi Osaka never even made it that far.

Osaka, of course, withdrew from the tournament before her second-round match. She had been fined for missing a press conference and then decided to step away from the tournament to take some time off.

As other top seeds fell, the only seeded player now left in the mix is No. 31 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who will battle unseeded Barbora Krejcikova in the women’s final on Saturday.

2021 French Open Women’s Semifinals Results

Pavlyuchenkova advanced to her first Grand Slam final ever by defeating Tamara Zidansek in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. It was also the winner’s first venture past the quarterfinals in a major tournament. She had been 0-6 in major quarterfinals before this year’s French Open.

Her opponent, Krejcikova, had a tougher time in her semifinal. Down 5-3, 30-40 in the third and final set to No. 17 Maria Sakkari, Krejcikova won the point, came back to tie the set, and eventually won 9-7. It was only second time in the professional era of women’s tennis that four first-time Grand Slam semifinalists faced off against each other.

The Favorite – Krejcikova (-115)

Krejcikova enters Saturday’s final as a -115 favorite. Despite having to go three sets to beat Sakkari, Krejcikova is actually not a stranger to Grand Slam finals. She actually won one as a doubles partner to fellow countrywoman Katerina Siniakova in 2018. At one point, Krejcikova was the No. 1-ranked doubles player in the world. She is currently seventh.

Krejcikova has been a wild card the entire tournament. She is currently ranked 33 rd in the world and was a huge longshot to win the French Open. When she is on, Krejcikova can be really good as seen by her elimination of No. 22 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and then fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina. Then, it was Sloane Stephens right before eliminating No. 24 Gauff.

She did make the fourth round at Roland Garros last year, so Krejcikova may have a bit of an edge heading into Saturday’s final.

The Underdog – Pavlyuchenkova (+100)

Pavlyuchenkova cruised through her first two matches against unseeded opponents and then took care of No. 15 Victoria Azarenka before ousting No. 21 Elena Rybakina. The 5-foot-10-inch Pavlyuchenkova was an underdog against Zidansek in the semifinals but came out firing and won rather easily.

Being the underdog is nothing new for Pavylyuckenkova. She has been ranked among the top 50 women’s tennis players in the world since November 2008 reaching a high of No. 13 back in 2011. She was the world junior No. 1 at age 14 and has moderate success as a pro though she has never won a Grand Slam title.

2021 French Open Women’s Final Prediction

The value here is on the underdog Pavlyuchenkova. Krejcikova is the better player on clay, but her opponent will feast on being the underdog. Neither has won a Grand Slam singles event though Krejcikova does have the doubles experience.

Pavlyuchenkova also didn’t have to go three sets (and deep into the third) to win her semifinal match. It’s not much, but that extra rest will be a factor in the heat at Roland Garros.

BEST BET: Pavyluchenkova +100
