2022 March Madness Midwest Region Preview, Odds and Picks

Selection Sunday has come and gone, and we now know the 68 teams that will be competing in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament is broken down into four different regions, and it’s best to look at the tournament in those specific regions first.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Midwest portion of the bracket and see which teams might be able to make a run at reaching the Final Four. The Midwest Regional final round will be played at the United Center in Chicago, and location can sometimes have an impact on which teams cut down the nets.

Top Contenders to Win the Midwest Bracket

The Midwest Region looks pretty stacked on paper, and there are plenty of teams that are good enough to win it all. The Kansas Jayhawks are the number 1 seed in the Midwest, and that automatically makes them one of the top contenders to win four games.

The Jayhawks enter the NCAA Tournament with a record of 28-6, but there were some teams in the Big 12 Conference that revealed flaws of Kansas. Auburn was given the number two seed in the Midwest Region after winning the SEC regular-season title this year.

There are also a pair of Big Ten Conference teams slated to play in the Midwest Region, and those teams are good enough to make a run. Wisconsin is the number three seed in this region, and Iowa was given the number five.

Upset Specials

There are two teams to look out for in the Midwest Region, and both teams came into the NCAA Tournament with a double-digit seed. If you are looking for chaos in the Midwest Region, then look at South Dakota State or Iowa State to provide the upsets.

SDSU is 30-4 on the season, and they have a favorable matchup against the Providence Friars in the First Round. Iowa State is an 11 seed that has the ability to knock off the LSU Tigers in the First Round.

2022 Midwest Region Winner Prediction

If Kansas is going to win the Midwest Region, then they are going to have to play really well for a two-week stretch. The Jayhawks could actually run into trouble in the second round, but the real issue will come in the Sweet 16.

The Iowa Hawkeyes just won the Big Ten Conference, and they have been one of the best teams in the country for a month. Iowa will have to shoot the ball well, but they are talented enough to win the title.

Don’t be surprised to see a Big Ten matchup in the Elite Eight, but it will be the Iowa Hawkeyes over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Midwest Region.
