2022 NFL Hall of Fame Game Preview

Don’t expect to see many big name starters competing on Thursday night.

Derek Carr didn’t play a single preseason snap last season. It has also been announced already that the Jaguars won’t have Trevor Lawrence, C.J. Beathard or Travis Etienne suit up for this game.

Both teams are starting the season with new head coaches.

Josh McDaniels is the new Raiders head coach. This is his first head coaching job for McDaniels since he was named the Denver Broncos head coach in 2009. He lasted less than two seasons in Denver.

The Urban Meyer era in Jacksonville didn’t last long. He was fired after going 2-11 and plenty of other drama. Doug Pederson was hired on February 3rd 2022 and will look to get the Jags on track.

Both teams are bringing in new WRs. The Raiders traded for superstar Davante Adams, while the Jags signed Christian Kirk (4-years at 72M), which could prove to be a massive overpay.

Jaguars vs. Raiders Preseason Predictions

QB play is more important than anything in the preseason, so we’ll start with analyzing that.

The Jaguars will be utilizing Jake Luton and Kyle Sloter – two capable QBs for preseason action. Sloter is in form also, as he recently finished up playing with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL.

The Raiders may split time between three QBs (Jarrett Stidham, Nick Mullens and Chase Garbers).

Stidham could provide some offense, but he’s also turnover prone. You never know what to expect out of Mullens and Garbers is an undrafted rookie that will likely struggle in any playing time he receives.

You have to give the edge to the Jaguars. The Raiders may keep the game close initially depending upon how many defensive starters they keep in the game, but the Jags should pull away with this game.

The Jags also have the edge in WR depth. The Raiders have more top-end talent at WR/TE, but those players won’t see much playing time on Thursday. The Jags have lots of depth that can perform.

After opening at 32.5 points, the total has been bet down and we recommend avoiding the total. While the game could be sloppy, the total is really low and the best bet is on the Jags money line at plus money.

Best Bet: Jacksonville Jaguars ML (+115)
