2023 NFC Championship Game Preview

The 49ers defeated the Seahawks (41-23) during the Wild Card Round and the Cowboys (19-12) in the Divisional Round. The 49ers offense struggled against the Cowboys and will need to improve this week.

Philadelphia had a bye for the Wild Card Round and dominated the Giants (38-7) in the Divisional Round. The Eagles rushed for 268 yards and 3 TDs against the Giants last Saturday.

Both of these teams have a top 10 offense and defense. The Eagles score 28.1 PPG (3rd) and allow 20.2 PPG (8th), while the 49ers score 26.5 PPG (6th) and allow 16.3 PPG (1st).

The Eagles average 147.6 RYPG (5th), but the 49ers only allow 77.7 RYPG (2nd). The Eagles passing attack (241.5 PYPG – 9th) should be the focal point against the 49ers defense (222.9 PYPG – 20th).

On the other end, the 49ers will want to establish the run. SF average 138.8 RYPG (8th) and the Eagles allow 121.6 RYPG (16th). Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell should both get plenty of touches on Sunday.

Philly rank #1 against the pass (179.8 PYPG), while the 49ers offense averages 226.8 PYPG (13th).

2023 NFC Championship Game Predictions

Here are my best bets for the 2023 NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and Eagles:

Best Bet: 49ers ML (+120)

The 49ers defense looked amazing against the Cowboys. Jalen Hurts has had a productive season, but he has only thrown for 250+ passing yards in three of his last 13 games.

The Eagles run game won’t be as successful as last week. SF rushed for 181 yards (1 TD) against the Seahawks and 113 yards (1 TD) against the Cowboys. The 49ers will run for 100+ yards again, allowing them to control the tempo and clock.

As long as Brock Purdy and the Niners avoid costly turnovers, I like them to pull off the upset.

Best Bet: Under 45.5 Points (-110)

With two strong defenses, I’m betting that the game total will stay under. The Eagles have gone under in three consecutive games and the 49ers have gone under in their last seven road playoff games.

It wouldn’t surprise me if both teams fail to exceed 21 points in the NFC Championship Game.
