Richard Rodgers’ one-handed grab off a Hail Mary pass from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz with 21 second remaining on Monday night cost one bettor a $500,000 wager.
BetMGM said Monday night that it had received a $500,000 wager on the Seattle Seahawks to win by at least 6.5 points.
Seattle led 23-9 when Wentz launched a 33-yard pass into a crowd of players in the end zone. Rodgers caught the deflected ball with his right hand while falling to the ground.
Miles Sanders then scored easily on the two-point conversion to make the score 23-17. Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf recovered the Eagles’ on-side kick attempt to seal the final score.
The bettor, who stood to make a $455,000 profit before the late score, instead lost the $500,000 wager.
Making the “bad beat” even worse is that the Seahawks were 5.5-point favorites as late as Saturday night at some sportsbooks.
