It’s international soccer’s second-biggest competition and it has been held every four years since its inception in 1960. The coronavirus postponed Euro 2020 until this year, but it will get underway June 11.
It’s no surprise that France and England lead the favorites to win, but is there a sleeper out there? Four years ago, Portugal opened at +2000 but went on to capture the Euro 2016 title. What will happen this time around?
Here’s a look at the Euro 2020 outright winner odds and betting tips.
The Easy Route
From a strategic viewpoint, Spain has the easiest path to making the knockout stage. The Spaniards will be in Group E with Sweden, Poland, and Slovakia. Spain is an overwhelming favorite to win the group (- 286) and checks in at +900 to win Euro 2020.
The Spanish will be without long-time captain Sergio Ramos – first time missing Euro since 2004 – but retain a load of talent including striker Alvaro Morata who had 20 goals and 12 assists for Juventus in Serie A play.
England (+540) also has a pretty easy path to the knockout stage. They will play in Group D along with Croatia, Czech Republic, and Scotland. It’s England’s group to lose and it could be the country’s most talented team in years.

The Hard Way
The toughest challenge will be in Group F where Euro 2020 favorite France will take on Germany (+900), Portugal (+800), and Hungary (+50000). Remember, Portugal is the reigning Euro champion. France which is given +480 betting odds to win this year, is the reigning World Cup champion. Germany won the World Cup in 2014.
Antoine Griezmann is the returning Golden Boot winner and he’ll have Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe to feed off of. The French can score and they are one of the best defensive teams in the tournament.
Since winning the 2014 World Cup, Germany has not been as strong. The Germans were eliminated in group play at the 2018 World Cup, got beat 6-0 by Spain in Nations League play, and suffered an embarrassing loss to North Macedonia in World Cup qualifying.
Euro 2020 Contenders
The Surprise in Group F is likely Portugal (+800). They are, of course, the reigning Euro champions and have one of the all-time greats in the sport in Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal is not just Ronaldo though. They still have 38-year-old Pepe at center and what is the best fullback duo in the tournament in Joao Cancelo and Raphael Guerrero.
Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, and Bernardo Silva are as good a front three as any in Euro 2020. It’s likely the top two teams that advance to the knockout stage from Group F are France and Portugal. Germany may make it as one of the best third-place teams, but the key will be the knockout draw.
If Portugal is the group runner-up, it’s possible they would draw England right off the bat. Remember, though, Portugal won it all in 2016 while only winning once in regulation.
Euro 2020 Outright Winner Prediction
France and England are the early favorites to win Euro 2020. France was the overall favorite in 2016 with England among the top four. It didn’t work out last time as Portugal surprised the field as a +2250 underdog.
Look for another surprise in Euro 2020. It might not be Portugal, who certainly has the opportunity to win it, but take a closer look at Italy (+900).
The Italian national team has not lost a match since Sept. 10, 2018. They are unbeaten since Roberto Mancini took over, a stretch that includes 24 matches. In Euro qualifying, Italy went 10-0-0 scoring 37 goals and giving up just four.
Italy has one of the world’s best goalkeepers in Gianluigi Donnarumma and lots of star power with Nicolo Barella and Joringho. It’s been a long time – 1968 to be exact – since Italy won a Euro title, but back the Italians at +900 for a surprise win in Euro 2020.
