The Dallas Mavericks will be hosting the Los Angeles Lakers in a contest that could be missing a little of the star power these squads possess as both teams may be missing big names when they take the court on Friday.
Game: Los Angeles Lakers (30-7, 19-17-1 ATS) vs Dallas Mavericks (23-14, 20-17 ATS)
When: 8:35 PM ET, Friday, January 10, 2020
Where: American Airlines Arena Center, Dallas, Texas
Line: Dallas -1.5 Total: 222
The Lakers enter the contest 30-7 and winners of their last 6 games. They are coming off a 30 point home demolishing of the lowly New York Knicks.
While the win was nice, Laker fans got a bit of a scare as superstar Anthony Davis took a rough fall attempting to block a shot. Luckily it was just bruised, but Davis is questionable for this contest as coach Frank Vogel stated he is very sore. Check closer to game time for a final decision.
While everyone, including NBA oddsmakers, knows the star power of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, this team is doing a lot of winning with defense as they allow the fewest points in the Western Conference at 104.9 per contest. Offensively, James and Davis lead the team to the tune of averaging 112.8 points per game.
The Mavericks enter the contest after losing a close call at home to the Denver Nuggets 107-106. They will be without star forward Kristaps Porzingis as he is battling a sore right knee.
Dallas has lost 3 of 5 games since Porzingis went down as it allows teams to key more on superstar sensation Luka Doncic. Doncic is currently averaging over 29 points per game to go with 9 plus rebounds and 9 assists per game. To say this guy has surpassed the highest of expectations is an understatement.
And an odd stat shows the Mavs at only 11-9 SU at home including a tough 119-110 OT loss to this Lakers team earlier this season. This stat should be something that corrects itself going forward and they seem to still play the Lakers tough at home.
The injuries on both sides and the uncertainty of Davis have me passing on making a play for the side of this game. But I willtouch on the total. As stated above while the offense and stars get most of the praise the Lakers can play defense. And it's the Lakers coming to town so the American Airlines Center will be rocking.
The Mavericks should want to give the home town fans a show so effort should not be a question. The UNDER is 6-1 covering the last 7 contests between these 2 teams with the only OVER coming in the last meeting in Dallas that went to overtime. My numbers put this game in the 216 range so going to put a small play on the under.
Pick: Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks UNDER 222
