The 2020 Kentucky Derby has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs. It is anyone’s guess what the projected 20-horse field will look like at that point in time.
With most of sporting world on hold right now due to the continued outbreak of the coronavirus, the show continues to go on at a few of the biggest racetracks in the country running a live card this time of the year.
Everything remains subject to change depending on existing conditions, but horse racing appears determined to keep things business as usual with stakes events you can still bet on.
Famed racing venues such as Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs in Florida as well as Oaklawn Park in Arkansas and Fair Grounds Race Track in Louisiana top that list.
Wells Bayou was the big winner in this past Saturday’s Grade 2 Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds.
2020 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park
The highly talented field for the 2020 Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, March 28 is still coming together. If everything goes as planned, one of the early favorites to win the Kentucky Derby should be running in this race.
Trainer Barclay Tagg’s Tiz the Law is coming off a victory at Gulfstream in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes on Feb. 1. He covered the 1 1/16-mile run on dirt in 1:42.04 over Ete Indien and Toledo.
Checking the latest Kentucky Derby futures odds to win, Tiz the Law is third on the list at +800 behind Authenticand Charlatan at +700 odds. Ete Indien is also expected to be in the field for the rematch in Saturday’s main event.

Another top contender on the early entry list for the Florida Derby is Gouverneur Morris. Trained by Todd Pletcher, this three-year old Kentucky-bred colt started the season with a victory in a 1-mile 40-yard Allowance Claimer at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 14. All told, there are 10 three-year old colts on the early list for the Florida Derby with the three mentioned above leading the field.
The best way to bet the horse tracks still running their planned daily card is at your favorite online gaming website. They offer fast and easy access to all the live races on that day’s schedule. The top online sportsbooks also offer access to any international race tracks running live events. Australia has a few tracks on that list along with Ireland and a few other UK markets.
Tracks Holding Course ... So Far
The pressure continues to build against most of the racing venues trying to maintain an ongoing race schedule.
Another big advantage of turning to the online sportsbooks for access to the racebook is up to the minute availability. The top-rated online books have gone to extraordinary means to add betting events to the board under the most difficult of situations.
State governors have the ability to completely lockdown their state as in California and New York. International events, including horse racing tracks, are subject to change at a moment’s notice.
The entire online sportsbook industry keeps their ear to the ground as far as the latest news concerning the coronavirus impact on the sporting world. The renewed interest in their racebooks as a viable betting alternative keeps everyday at the track as updated as possible.
Whether you are a huge racing fan or drawn to the action due to the absence of other sports betting options, online sportsbooks remain the best and safest way to get in on all the action.
A big part of the services that my
marketing company, Blue Pointe Advisors, LLC offers is written content for
sports betting websites.I have
been working as a full-time sports betting writer for the past nine years
following a previous career in the field of sales and marketing.
I consider myself extremely
fortunate to be able to write about my true passion in life; the world of sports.
I also enjoy concentrating the bulk of my pieces towards the betting angle in
sports. It is always a challenge to take past results and current form to try
and correctly determine a future result. Sports brings out the unpredictability
in what should be a fairly predictable outcome based on the stats, facts and
recent trends in a particular matchup. The one thing that I have learned over
the past decade or so is that when it comes to betting on sports there is no
such thing as a lock.
The main objective with my writing
style is to create insightful articles on a wide variety of sporting topics
that can provide an edge to today's sophisticated online player. While there
are times when my predictions fall well short of the actual outcome, I still
enjoy trying to come up with a logical explanation to support my views on every
pick I make.
My love of sports started a long
time ago when I was just a kid growing up just outside Philadelphia. While I
was a big Phillies, Flyers and 76ers fan, my number one team was always the
Eagles. My dad was a season ticket holder from 1961 to 2002 and I would
honestly say that he missed less than a handful of games during quite a few
pretty dismal seasons. I was fortunate enough to go to a number of Eagles’
games back in the day including the 1980 NFC Championship when Wilbert
Montgomery ran roughshod over the bitter rival Dallas Cowboys to lead Philly to
their first appearance in a Super Bowl. Flash forward 37 years later and am I
still waiting patiently for my favorite team to bring home the Super Bowl title
my dad never got to celebrate.
