With the MLB season going steady, there are a ton of games available to bet on. Below are the best MLB over/under picks you can place on Wednesday, August 3rd 2022.
Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals
Best Bet: Under 8
Miles Mikolas has been the top pitcher on the St. Louis Cardinals’ staff so far this year. Stacked up against his peers, Mikolas has demonstrated he has the stuff to be at the top of a rotation. He ranks 18th in MLB with a 2.86 ERA and has struck out 100 batters in 132.1 innings of work.
This will be Mikolas’ third start this season against Chicago. The Cubs beat up Mikolas on June 3rd, scoring four runs in Mikolas’ 5.0 innings of work, but Chicago still won 14-5.
In a more recent start, Mikolas threw six innings of one-hit ball in a 5-3 St. Louis win on June 25th.
Chicago pitcher Justin Steele pitched well in July for Chicago. Steele had a 2.11 ERA over his four starts and allowed one or fewer runs in three of those starts.
The Cubs’ offense, however, hasn’t always backed up the pitching this season. Chicago ranks 21st in the MLB by scoring 4.2 runs per game.
With both pitchers going well and Chicago’s struggles at the plate, this game should go under.
Cincinnati Reds at Miami Marlins
Best Bet: Under 7
Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara, by his standards, hasn’t been quite right since the All-Star break. In his two starts, Alcantara has made two consecutive starts where he allowed two or more earned runs in consecutive games for the first time since late June. Facing the Cincinnati Reds may be a good way to get back on track.
The Reds rank 20th in MLB in home runs and 18th in runs per game. Miami has struggled at the plate themselves.
The Marlins are 24th in the MLB in runs score at 3.92 per game and are 22nd in batting average at .237. In the six games played between the two teams this year, three of them have gone under seven runs.
Each of the past two went below five runs. Expect the trend to continue and offense to be difficult to come by.
Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants
Best Bet: Over 7.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense is on a roll. Over the past eight games, the Dodgers have scored five or more runs in each game. Los Angeles is hoping to replicate its last performance against San Francisco Giants pitcher Alex Cobb.
During Cobb’s July 24th start against Los Angeles, he allowed eight hits and four runs in what turned out to be a 7-4 Dodgers’ win. Cobb, who has a 4.06 ERA on the season, has pitched better since the calendar turned to July.
Cobby had a 2.75 ERA in July but struggled with teams in the division. In addition to allowing the Dodgers to plate four runs, Cobb’s two other worst starts in July were against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cobb allowed three earned runs in each of his starts against Arizona.
Julio Urias will start for the Dodgers. Urias has a 2.71 ERA and has ten wins this season as a starter.
