MLB Over/Under Predictions for Tuesday, June 21st 2022

The 2022 Major League Baseball season continues its rapid approach to the halfway point with another full plate of action on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are in a deadlock in the National League West, while the New York Yankees became the first team in the league to amass 50 wins this season with Monday’s win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

These are the best over/unders to bet on Tuesday.

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

Cubs vs. Pirates Picks

Best Bet: Over 9 Runs

The first game of this series saw 13 runs go on the board, with the Pirates scoring 12 of those. While it is unlikely that they produce a similar offensive performance, it is indicative of the fact that Chicago can give up runs in a hurry. Similarly, Pittsburgh has a troubled pitching staff, so it will not take much for the Cubs to get going.

Both of these teams also have decent home run totals, and the Cubs, in particular, have a nice batting average. Although the same cannot be said about the Pirates, it didn’t seem to bother them on Monday. They will be full of confidence heading into the rematch. With the starting pitchers having combined ERAs that rival the points total, the over feels pretty safe for this one.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Cardinals vs. Brewers Picks

Best Bet: Under 9 Runs

The Cardinals and Brewers have been going back and forth for the division lead in recent weeks, heightening the stakes in their impending matchup. The Brewers won game one 2-0 to give themselves a one-game lead, but the overachieving Cardinals have shown enough resolve to get back into pole position sooner than later. Rival teams tend to play each other close, which is a major reason why the under feels so good here.

The obvious criticism would be that the starting pitchers, Chi Chi Gonzalez and Jack Flaherty, have a combined three innings of action this season, but both teams’ defenses are solid, and their bats, while effective, cannot be counted on to carry the clubs to victory— especially Milwaukee's. It would not be a surprise to see one of the teams win somewhere around the 4-2 mark, more likely St. Louis, because of its advantage in the box.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres

Diamondbacks vs. Padres Picks

Best Bet: Under 7 Runs

Betting totals under seven is always scary, but these teams, specifically Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen, have built up enough trust to ride with the under. Gallen’s 2.95 ERA has made him one of the best in the National League. It’s especially impressive considering he’s on a losing team, while San Diego’s Sean Manaea has enough talent to hold teams at bay.

Another factor working in favor of the under is that the Diamondbacks have the sixth-worst batting average in baseball and are totally devoid of star offensive power, which has been a major reason that they have not been able to compete in a loaded division.
