NBA Betting Facts, Stats and Trends You Need to Know - Jan. 23

The month of January is flying by as all 30 NBA teams begin to cross the halfway point of their 82-game regular season schedule. The race for the eight playoff spots in both the Eastern and Western Conference have taken shape.

From a betting standpoint, the moneymakers have also separated themselves from the best NBA teams to go against.

Past trends, recent betting results and all-around team form are three excellent measures for betting the games.

Gaining an edge over the online sportsbooks can sometimes be as simple as digging a bit deeper into the numbers. The goal is to paint an accurate picture of every team in order to better predict their future results.

Some of the more general NBA betting trends include:

- Year-to-date, underdogs have won 51.1% of the games against the spread

- Over the past month, road favorites have covered ATS 54.1% of the time

- The total has gone OVER in 56.2% of the games in the past 30 days

- They total has gone OVER in 51.3% of the games this season

- The seven-day NBA betting trends favor road favorites at 55.6% and the OVER at 66%

General trends can provide some added support to handicapping individual matchups. However, there is no substitution for breaking down any matchup on face value.

A common betting strategy is to ride a hot team until it cools. Over the course of a six-month regular season, every team is going to have more than a few hot and cold streaks. Betting with a hot streak or against a cold streak makes sense on a very basic level.
