The Clippers enter this contest after holding off the Dallas Mavericks last night for a 110-107 victory. The Clips currently sit at 31-13 which is good enough for 2nd in the top-loaded Western Conference.
Superstar Kawhi Leonard led the squad with 36 points as he continues to show the Clipper faithful how lucky they were to get him this past offseason. Lou Williams continued his contributions off the bench chipping in 16 points, but only on 5-19 shooting.
This Clippers team continues to dazzle on offense as they currently rank 4th in the NBA in scoring average at approximately 116 points per. Offensively they are led by Leonard, Williams, and Paul George (who is currently injured and unavailable for this contest).
The Clippers look to be short-handed however as George is out with injury and both Leonard and starting PG Patrick Beverly look to be scheduled out for rest. Beverly is not a huge offensive weapon but he is a key contributor on the defensive end.
The Atlanta Hawks currently have one of the worst records in the league at 10-34. And while the record is terrible there are reasons for optimism.
This core is young and probably a few years away from seriously competing but the signs are good. They are led by Trae Young, who has all the makings of a superstar that can fill the stat sheet almost every night. Young is averaging over 29 points and almost 9 assists on the season.
The side on this game has a few too many missing pieces for my liking with all the Clippers potentially sitting out for rest (imagine paying to see the Clippers in Atlanta and the superstars are out). But the total is something to seriously look at. The 233 currently hanging is the 2nd highest on the board and you may be inclined to go under with all the players out for the Clips.
But if you are thinking under you may be overlooking how deep this Clippers team can run offensively and how bad this Atlanta Hawks defense plays this season.
The Hawks have played 24-19-1 to the over this season and their young core loves nothing more than running up and down the court in offensive shootouts.
The Clips are missing a lot of their defense tonight but should still have the offensive firepower to put points on the board. Trae Young probably puts up 40 in this one as the Hawks look to run and gun for 4 quarters.
And defense in the game will be few and far between for both teams. I've got this game playing close most of the way with a total eclipsing the 233 that is currently hung.
