NBA Post All-Star Game Betting

This past weekend’s NBA All-Star festivities culminated in one of the best All-Star Games in recent memory. The top players in the league put on a great show for the fans. They also added even more excitement to play over the final two months of the regular season.

Pay Attention to Current Form

Business gets back to usual after the weeklong break with the first round of games on Thursday marking the stretch run to the NBA postseason, and the NBA standings are worth paying attention to. The eight best teams from each conference will then square off in three best-of-seven playoff rounds leading up to the best-of-seven NBA Finals.

Betting on NBA games over the next two months will require a few tweaks to the overall handicapping process. Current form remains at the top of the list. However, a team’s motivation for playing the games carries added importance.

The 30-team league can now be broken down into four distinct categories:

1. Legitimate NBA title contenders

2. Solid playoff teams

3. Average teams riding out the string

4. Teams looking to enhance NBA draft position

Who Will Win the 2020 NBA Championship

The Milwaukee Bucks are the clear favorites to win this year’s NBA title. One prominent online sportsbook has set their odds at -125 to win the Eastern Conference and at +250 as favorites to win it all.

The Los Angeles Lakers top the list to win the Western Conference as +165 favorites and they are second to the Bucks to win the league championship at +275.

Boston (+500), Philadelphia (+500), Miami (+700) and Toronto (+800) round out the top five teams to win the East. The rival Los Angeles Clippers are close +200 second-favorites to win the West followed Houston (+800), Utah (+900) and Denver (+900) in that Top 5 listing.

Betting Odds to Win the NBA Atlantic Division

These are the 10 teams that should be playing the hardest over the next two months. These are also the same 10 teams that will look to rest their best players as much as they can.

At full strength, they are the best teams to go with against teams outside this elite group. Yet, there will be more than a few great opportunities to go against them in games when the head coach decides to sit half their starting lineup for load management purposes.

In the Hunt

Teams that are in the hunt for the remainder of the playoff spots in either conference are your best overall NBA betting teams. They each need to win as many games as possible over the next two months. Resting top players does not remain an option for this group of teams.

Bettors should take some added interest in Indiana, Brooklyn, Orlando and Washington in the East. The four teams in the West that fall into this solid playoff team category would be Oklahoma City, Dallas, Memphis and Portland.

The third category of teams should keep playing hard until the point they are officially out of the playoff picture. In the East, this group would include Chicago and Charlotte with San Antonio, New Orleans, Phoenix and Sacramento joining the group from the West.

Draft Dodgers

The bottom tier of teams that would benefit from far more losses than wins is headlined by the New York Knicks, Atlanta and Cleveland at the bottom of the East standings. You could add Minnesota from the West as another good team to go against over the next two months.

Golden State is in a class by itself. The Warriors have the worst record in the NBA at 12-43 coming off the break. Yet, they will continue to play hard for pride as three-time league champions over the previous five seasons.

About the Author

A big part of the services that my marketing company, Blue Pointe Advisors, LLC offers is written content for sports betting websites.  I have been working as a full-time sports betting writer for the past nine years following a previous career in the field of sales and marketing.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to write about my true passion in life; the world of sports. I also enjoy concentrating the bulk of my pieces towards the betting angle in sports. It is always a challenge to take past results and current form to try and correctly determine a future result. Sports brings out the unpredictability in what should be a fairly predictable outcome based on the stats, facts and recent trends in a particular matchup. The one thing that I have learned over the past decade or so is that when it comes to betting on sports there is no such thing as a lock.

The main objective with my writing style is to create insightful articles on a wide variety of sporting topics that can provide an edge to today's sophisticated online player. While there are times when my predictions fall well short of the actual outcome, I still enjoy trying to come up with a logical explanation to support my views on every pick I make.

My love of sports started a long time ago when I was just a kid growing up just outside Philadelphia. While I was a big Phillies, Flyers and 76ers fan, my number one team was always the Eagles. My dad was a season ticket holder from 1961 to 2002 and I would honestly say that he missed less than a handful of games during quite a few pretty dismal seasons. I was fortunate enough to go to a number of Eagles’ games back in the day including the 1980 NFC Championship when Wilbert Montgomery ran roughshod over the bitter rival Dallas Cowboys to lead Philly to their first appearance in a Super Bowl. Flash forward 37 years later and am I still waiting patiently for my favorite team to bring home the Super Bowl title my dad never got to celebrate.
