Will it happen? Let’s break down J.J. Watt’s next team.
You can bet on this NFL free agent props market at BetOnline.
Connie Watt aside, J.J. to the Steelers actually does make sense. Pittsburgh has made a name for itself on defense by getting after opposing quarterbacks. With Bud Dupree coming off an ACL injury and potentially leaving in free agency, it would make sense to sign another capable pass rusher like Watt.
Even at 32, Watt would add depth to a defensive line that needs it. Oddsmakers give Watt +550 odds to land it Pittsburgh making it one of the favorites.
If not Pittsburgh, maybe Watt still lands in the AFC North. Cleveland, which has standout Myles Garrett (12 sacks in 2020), is actually the overall favorite at -125 to land Watt.
Watt would give the Browns depth up front adding to a unit that already includes Garrett, Olivier Vernon, and Sheldon Richardson.
Bucs Grab Another Vet
Last offseason, Tampa Bay brought in Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski. They also later added free agent RB Leonard Fournette and WR Antonio Brown. Each of the four wound up in the end zone in the Super Bowl LV.
The Bucs might want to go out and grab a free agent pass rusher in the form of Watt. Tampa Bay’s defense has been outstanding over the past two seasons. Adding Watt would make Ndamukong Suh, who is 34 years of age, expendable.
To reach another Super Bowl, adding Watt makes sense. Bettors might want to get in on the action. Watt to Tampa Bay is getting +750 odds.
All the Watt brothers played at the University of Wisconsin. As a Wisconsin native, Watt surely wouldn’t mind playing in his home state. Plus, the Packers could add Watt to a top-10 pass rush.
The Packers don’t have a lot of cap space currently, but that may change as some players move around in free agency. Having a player like Watt would have made a difference in the NFC title game last season. Green Bay didn’t put enough pressure on Brady.
Watt to Green Bay is listed at +500.
After a loss in Super Bowl LV, the Kansas City Chiefs can get back to a third straight title game by improving one area – pass rush. The Chiefs leader in sacks was DT Chris Jones with 7.5. Pass rush is not a strong point for the Chiefs. Watt would change that.
Kansas City did not pressure Brady enough in the Super Bowl. Teaming Watt with Jones and Frank Clark could boost the Chiefs defense in 2021. For bettors, the longshot bet at +3300 might be worth it.
