PGA Preview: 2020 Farmers Insurance Open Picks, Odds and Info

The Farmers Insurance Open marks the end of the Christmas and Holiday season for the PGA Tour as this is one of the first events where the bigger names in the game come out to play. The field includes Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and others who are naturally riding the top of the favorites list according to intertops.

The Farmers, played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, has a long history of repeat winners, starting with Woods who has carded seven wins at the event.

If Justin Rose can repeat his victory from last year, he will become the seventh player with two Farmer wins. The multiple winner list includes players such as Arnold Palmer, with two, and Phil Mickelson with three Farmers victories.

Here are some golfers I like to win the 2020 Farmers Open. Check out my predictions for last week’s PGA The American Express.

Rory McIlroy +650

Rory McIlroy is the obvious pick for me this weekend and it’s for all the same reasons he’s riding the top of the favorites list.

He enters the Farmers Open as the favorite at +650, ahead of Jon Rahm and Tiger Woods, and there are several good reasons. He has three events under his belt this season with one being a win as well as a T2 and T3. Plus, he has jumped to the No. 2 spot on the OWGR list and No. 6 in FEDEX Cup rankings. Not to mention he capped off 2019 by winning the Tour Championship.

Tiger Woods +1000

Tiger Woods is now an elder statesman of the game who knows when to go for broke and when to play it somewhat safe. Over his 2020 season so far, Woods has played four times and finished with two wins, a T2, and a fourth-place finish.

One of the wins was at the Presidents Cup with the other being the ZOZO Championship. Woods is a solid pick, not because of his name and past achievements, but because he’s healthy, playing great golf, and Torrey Pines has been his playground.

Justin Rose +1600

Justin Rose won by two strokes last year over Adam Scott and is returning as the defending champ. Rose comes in at +1600, slightly down the favorites list.

The English golfer, originally from South Africa, has played only two events on the 2020 schedule, which technically started in 2019. He finished T28 at the HSBC Champions and followed up with a T5 at the Hero World Challenge.

And, he’s coming off a 2019 season which included his Farmers win as well as seven top-ten finishes and only one missed cut. Rose can repeat, but he will have to get past a few other players including Tiger Woods.

Long Shot: Cameron Champ +6600

Cameron Champ is down the favorites list at +6600 coming into the opening round on Thursday, but he is a player worth looking at.

Champ has a game well suited for Torrey Pines and he has two recent PGA Tour wins, including one dramatic victory this season at the Safeway Open.

The former player for Texas A&M has improved his OWGR ranking to No. 73 and jumped into the FEDEX standings at No. 10. Don’t be surprised if Champ wins his second event this year at the Farmers.

Others I like to Win:

Jon Rahm                        +750

Gary Woodland            +2200

Brandt Snedeker            +4000
