PGA Preview: 2020 Genesis Invitational Picks, Odds and Info

The 2020 Genesis Invitational has the deepest field of any event thus far in 2020. That means there are plenty of top-rated players, such as Tiger Woods, to consider when making your pics.

Blustery winds played havoc at Pebble Beach last week but I still hit several good finishers including Phil Mickelson (+2200) who made a run for the win while finishing 3rd. Patrick Cantlay (+1000) carding a T11. See my PGA betting article for the 2020 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Riviera Country Club is located just inside the city limits of Los Angeles at just under two miles from the coast. So hopefully ocean wind gusts won’t be too much of a problem heading into Thursday’s opening round.

Top Golfers To Consider for the 2020 Genesis Invitational

Bubba Watson +1000

Bubba Watson has won this event three times since 2014 and he’s placed in the top-twenty every other time he’s made the cut at Riviera.

His season started out rough with a missed cut and a few mid-pack finishes. However, over the last four events he has played in, Bubba went 18, T8, T6, and a T3 at Phoniex.

Watson could tack on a fourth Genesis win on Sunday.

Jon Rahm +900

Jon Rahm has been hot since he started playing on the PGA Tour in 2016 as he’s racked up three Tour wins along with plenty of top-ten finishes. He also has notched four international wins since his PGA debut.

This season he has played four PGA Tour events and carded all in the top-ten with a pair of second-place finishes. He’s risen to No. 3 on the OWGR ranking and is now ranked 33rd in FEDEX CUP points.

Rory McIlroy +750

Rory McIlroy is the favorite heading into the opening round coming in at +750 and he’s my pick to win.

I know it’s easy to pick the favorite, but I also go by recent past performance.

McIlroy has taken over the No. 1 spot on the OWGR list again as of the latest rankings. Plus, he’s played the Riveria course well over the years carding a T4 last year. Now, tack on the fact that this season he has one win, a T2, and a pair of T3 finishes.

Genesis Invitational Long Shots:

I like two players that are somewhat down the favorites list but still well within striking distance. The first being Adam Scott (+2800) who looked like a contender last year before a late fade netting him a T7.

The other is Tony Finau (+2500) who has carded several top-ten runs and seems to be poised for a big win. Both players have a game well suited for a classic course such as Riviera Country Club which plays long despite being a Par 71 course.

Others I like to Win the Genesis:

Tiger Woods                        +1600

Brooks Koepka            +2200

Hideki Matsuyama            +2800

Phil Mickelson                        +4500
