Premier League Free Picks for Matchweek 1

It’s not just the NFL regular season starting this week, the Premier League is also starting up.

The 2020/21 Premier League season gets underway tomorrow morning (ET Time). There are only eight matches scheduled for matchweek 1. Manchester City and Manchester United have been pushed back to matchweek 2, as they needed to be allowed 30 days of rest since last playing.

The other two teams not playing this week are Aston Villa and Burnley.

The other 16 Premier League teams will be in action to kick-off the 2020/21 campaign.

2020/21 Premier League Matchweek 1 Predictions

Here are my top three betting tips for matchweek 1 in the Premier League:

Liverpool vs. Leeds Betting Tips

Start Time: Saturday, September 12th 2020 at 12:30 PM ET

1×2 Odds: Liverpool (-303) / Leeds (+775) / Draw (+390)

The last time these two teams played against each other in the EPL was way back in 2004.

Leeds won the EFL Championship (93 Points) last season and earned promotion, but they draw the Premier League champions in their opener. To make matters worse, the match is at Anfield.

My best bet in this match is on Liverpool to have a clean sheet. Liverpool finished last season with 15 clean sheets (2nd), but they only had a clean sheet in 37% of their matches at Anfield.

Both teams scored in 63% of Liverpool’s home matches last season, but Leeds are likely going to struggle early on upfront, as they try to get new signing Rodrigo acclimated to the EPL.

Best Bet: Liverpool Clean Sheet (-110) at BetOnline

Tottenham vs. Everton Betting Tips

Start Time: Sunday, September 13th 2020 at 11:30 AM ET

1×2 Odds: Tottenham (-112) / Everton (+302) / Draw (+240)

I expect Jose Mourinho and Tottenham to build upon a strong finish to the 2019/20 campaign.

After the Premier League returned to play after the COVID-19 postponement, Tottenham finished the season going 5-3-1 (4-1-0 record at home). Tottenham were 12-3-4 at home last season.

Everton don’t typically travel well and they finished 5-3-11 in away matches last season. That includes a 1-0 loss to Tottenham. In the H2H match at Goodison Park, the match finished in a draw (1-1).

Everton could be improved in 2020/21, though. They made some big splashes in the transfer market, signing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid and Allan from Napoli, but they’re not 2020/21 Premier League title contenders.

It’ll take a bit of time to build chemistry, though.

Best Bet: Tottenham to Win (-112) at America’s Bookie

Brighton vs. Chelsea Betting Tips

Start Time: Monday, September 14th 2020 at 3:15 PM ET

1×2 Odds: Brighton (+380) / Chelsea (-154) / Draw (+295)

This should be a complete mismatch even with the match being played at Falmer Stadium.

Chelsea have dominated Brighton since they returned to the Premier League. This will be the fourth consecutive season in the top-flight for Brighton, but they’re 0-1-5 in six matches against Chelsea.

They did play to a 1-1 draw at Falmer Stadium last season, which snapped Chelsea’s five-match win streak. However, Chelsea have retooled during the transfer window.

Adding Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva, among others, will strengthen this squad. They already ranked #3 in EPL goals (69) last season and that number should improve with Werner who is my pick to win the 2020/21 Premier League Golden Boot.

Best Bet: Chelsea to Win (-154) at BetOnline
