Racebook Action | Gulfstream Park’s Top Weekend Races

Gulfstream Park in Florida has remained up and running throughout the entire coronavirus pandemic. This track had already established itself as one of the top horse racing venues in the nation. Over the past two months, online racebooks has become the favorite destination for sports bettors looking for some regular weekend action.

This upcoming weekend’s Friday and Saturday card does not disappoint with a great selection of races each day.

Featured Horse Races

The weekend’s featured races are covered as follows:

Friday, May 15 - Hollywood Wildcat Stakes

Open to three-year old fillies, this ungraded stakes race will be contested on the dirt track at Gulfstream over a distance of 1/16 miles.

The list of entries has been released barring any last minute scratches. When you're betting horses, always check the late scratches.

The eight-filly field is deep with talent with seven of the contenders carrying a Horse Racing Nation rating. At the top of the list is trainer Barclay Tagg’s Pleasant Orb. Jockey Joe Bravo is slated to get the ride.

This Kentucky-bred filly will be making her three-year old debut on Saturday with high expectations. Her only previous run was last summer at Ellis Park. Sired by Orb, she placed second in a seven-furlong Maiden Weight Special.

Two other fillies to watch in this race are Up In Smoke and Vigilantes Way. Each is coming off a victory their last time out.

Saturday, May 16 - Powder Break Stakes

The first big race on Saturday’s card at Gulfstream is for three year and older fillies and mares. The one mile run will be on the turf track.

The field is still coming together for this race with seven entries listed as probable at HRN. A few high-profile trainers should be represented, led by Mark Casse’s Got Stormy. This five-year old Kentucky-bred mare has a lofty 7.85 HRN rating as the highest in the projected field.

Going back to a third-place finish last year in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland, she has finished in the money in eight of the last nine events. This includes a trio of victories. The biggest career win was at Del Mar in the 2019 Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at a distance of one mile on turf.

Todd Pletcher is looking to run Valiance in this race with Chad Brown’s Tapit Today also on the probable list.

Saturday, May 16 - Musical Romance Stakes

Later on Saturday’s card, a field of seven fillies and mares are expected to compete in this seven-furlong sprint on the dirt. This race represents a great opportunity after sports bettors turn to horse racing.

Casse is looking to run two entries (Two Sixty and Oceans of Love) with Pletcher turning to Bellera as his top contender.

The best bet to win this race could be trainer Gerald Bennett’s Lady’s Island. Bred in the home state of Florida, this six-year old mare tops the projected field in both experience and HRN rating (6.73). She also has the clear home track advantage. Going back to the end of 2017, 10 of 14 events have been run at Gulfstream.

She placed second in the 2019 Musical Romance Stakes behind Stormy Embrace. Since that point, the daughter of Greatness and Broadway Martha has won five of her last six starts. She has proven to be a dominant sprinter over the course of her career.
