March Madness is right around the corner as we are looking at the hardwood for action today. Looking at the SEC we have the Auburn Tigers heading a couple hours over to Athens, Georgia to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. While this won’t garner the national headlines that football does, this is still a bitter rivalry between schools only a few hours down the road.
Auburn enters the game having won 8 or their last 9 contests. That one loss was an ugly one in their previous outing as they lost 85-73 to the Missouri Tigers. They are currently the #13 team in the nation and look to keep their resume clean of any additional ugly losses.
This Tigers team averages almost 80 points per game while allowing 75. They are led on offense by guard Samir Doughty, who averages 16 points per game on 41% shooting from the field. J’Von McCormick is also a key contributor, averaging 11.8 points and leading the team in assists at 4.6.
On the other side is the Georgia Bulldogs, who are desperate to find something positive to come away with in a season that has quickly gotten away from them. Georgia had some expectations this year but short of a run to an SEC title in the tournament they will be at home come March Madness 2020 time. They have lost 8 out of 9 games and have sunk to next to the bottom in the SEC standings.
The Dawgs average scoring 75.8 points per game while allowing 75.1. They are led by future NBA lottery pick and potential number 1 draft pick Anthony Edwards. Edwards averages 19 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds. Win or lose, this guy is capable of putting up some incredible plays for the Bulldogs and is often worth the price of admission alone.
As for betting this game there is history to look at this year as the Tigers routed the Bulldogs in Auburn last month.
Coach Pearl Talks About Auburn's Win Over Georgia
Auburn has been a solid team all season and UGA has just not looked right. Pair that with the fact that the Dawgs are in a serious shooting slump and you have to look at the Tigers as the play.
Georgia probably keeps this closer than the last meeting, but short of an offensive shooting clinic the Bulldogs just don’t have the team to take this one home. I’m taking the Auburn Tigers -3.
