Way Too Early Odds to Win the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup

Looking to get an early start to your NHL futures research for next season or are you looking to jump on some of the early value? We’re going to analyze the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup odds.

The Tampa Bay Lightning just won the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup on August 28th 2020.

The season was forced to be postponed because of COVID-19, but the NHL did a great job to form two bubbles to complete the season. The Lightning won their first Cup since 2004.

Steven Stamkos wasn’t a rookie until the 2008-09 season, so this is his first Cup.

When Will the 2020-21 NHL Season Begin?

No one has any idea yet when the 2020-21 NHL season will start.

The tentative dates are to start training camps on November 17th 2020 and then start the season on December 1st 2020, but even Gary Bettman recently said that might not be realistic.

Will there be a second wave of COVID-19 this winter that force restrictions?

The majority of players that have gone on record have also said they don’t want to play in a bubble again, especially for an entire season. So, how will travel work for the NHL?

With teams in Canada and the United States, things could get tricky.

Who Are the Stanley Cup Favorites Heading Into the 2020-21 Season?

The Colorada Avalanche (+750), Vegas Golden Knights (+750) and Lightning (+750) are sitting atop of the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup futures betting markets right now at BetOnline.

I never recommend betting on the favorites early on NHL futures unless you’re getting a great line on a division future. There’s just so much parity in the NHL and teams always go on streaks.

You’ll likely get a better price on these favorites if they have an early slump once the season starts.

I prefer jumping on some big priced longshots prior to the season begins before they steam in.

What Team Is Offering the Best Early Value?

The St. Louis Blues had 94 regular season points (42-19-10) last season, which was good enough for second place behind the Bruins (100 points). However, they weren’t ready to play in the bubble.

Vancouver eliminated the Blues in the first round (Series: 4-2).

St. Louis are priced at +2200 (22/1) to win the 2021 Stanley Cup. That puts them tied for ninth in the Stanley Cup futures betting market, which is giving us bettors too much value.

There aren’t eight better teams than the Blues.

St. Louis are expected to have a busy off-season and will likely have to make a decision and whether they want to keep Jordan Binnington (2.56 GA/G) or Jake Allen (2.15 GA/G) in net long-term.

The Blues ranked #5 in goals against during the 2019-20 regular season (2.66 GA/G). They only ranked #14 in goal scoring (3.14 GPG), but they could improve offensively this off-season.
