A game left just to the relievers was apparently all the New York Yankees needed to turn around their pitching woes, but it's the offense that's set to get a huge boost. The Yankees will try to bash their way to a series split when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the finale of a four-game series on Sunday.
New York allowed at least five runs in seven consecutive contests - going 2-5 in that span - before sending an opener to the mound on Saturday and using four pitchers in an 8-4 victory. The Yankees, who are close to getting sluggers Giancarlo Stanton (shoulder) and Aaron Judge (oblique) back from rehab assignments, reportedly traded for American League home run leader Edwin Encarnacion from the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, sending a shockwave through the AL East as they try to compete with the pitching-rich Tampa Bay Rays and the defending champion Boston Red Sox. The White Sox (34-35) missed a chance to move above .500 for the first time this season and had a three-game winning streak come to an end with Saturday's setback. Chicago will try to bounce back behind right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne while the Yankees try to coax a quality start out of lefty James Paxton.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH James Paxton (3-3, 4.04 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Odrisamer Despaigne (0-1, 4.50)
Paxton is still trying to find his form after returning from a knee injury and was knocked around for six runs on seven hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings to suffer a loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday. The Canada native has not competed five innings in any of his first three starts off the injured list and last earned a win at San Francisco on April 26. Paxton is seeing Chicago for the first time since July 14, 2017, when he struck out nine over six solid innings to earn a win as a member of the Mariners.
Despaigne made his Chicago debut on Monday and allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings to suffer a loss against the Washington Nationals. The 32-year-old Cuban split 2018 between the Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins and compiled a 2-3 record with a 6.69 ERA in 19 games - five starts. Despaigne made one previous appearance against the Yankees, allowing two runs on as many hits in 1 2/3 innings.
1. The Yankees will reportedly send minor-league RHP Juan Then to the Mariners in the Encarnacion deal.
2. Chicago 3B Yoan Moncada (back) has sat out the last four games but is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday.
3. New York 2B Gleyber Torres is 7-for-13 with three runs scored over the last four games.
