The Tennessee Titans are a National Football League team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at Nissan Stadium in downtown Nashville. The Titans were formerly the Houston Oilers and were an original member of the American Football League. They joined the NFL in the 1970 merger and moved to Memphis prior to the 1997 season. The team moved to Nashville the next season and began playing as the Titans in 1999. That was the year of their only AFC championship, and they have not won a Super Bowl.
