Milwaukee Brewers vs. Houston Astros Preview and Predictions 06-12-2019

Justin Verlander looks to become the first 10-game winner in the major leagues this year when the Houston Astros host the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday for the finale of their two-game interleague series. Verlander won't be the only hot hurler on the mound as Milwaukee's Brandon Woodruff looks to win his eighth straight decision.

Verlander will be striving to pitch the Astros to their 10th victory in 12 games after they won a 10-8 slugfest on Tuesday in the series opener. Yordan Alvarez became the first player in franchise history to homer in each of his first two major-league games, while Robinson Chirinos, Yuli Gurriel and Tyler White also went deep for Houston. Milwaukee's Christian Yelich belted his major league-leading 25th homer while going 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Yasmani Grandal went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs for the Brewers, who had their four-game winning streak halted.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Brandon Woodruff (8-1, 3.87 ERA) vs. Astros RH Justin Verlander (9-2, 2.31)

Woodruff's lone loss of the campaign was against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 10 as he since has allowed fewer than three runs in seven of his 10 starts. The 26-year-old matched his season high of 10 strikeouts while defeating Pittsburgh in his last turn, when he gave up three runs and four hits over six innings. Woodruff, who never has faced Houston, is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA in five road starts this season.

Verlander did not factor in the decision in his last outing as he allowed three runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings against Seattle. The 36-year-old has given up five hits or fewer in 11 straight outings and owns a splendid 0.74 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .151 batting average this season. Verlander is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA in two career starts against the Brewers and has enjoyed success versus Mike Moustakas (12-for-68, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Chirinos has gone deep in five of his last seven games.

2. Moustakas is 15-for-41 with seven homers and 11 RBIs in his last 10 contests.

3. Houston 2B Jose Altuve (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this weekend, while OF George Springer (hamstring) took batting practice on Tuesday in his latest sign of progress.
