Cleveland Indians vs. Seattle Mariners Preview and Predictions 04-17-2019 in MLB

The Cleveland Indians look to complete a three-game sweep when they visit the struggling Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. Cleveland notched a pair of two-run victories to clinch the series while the Mariners are 0-5 on their six-game homestand after a franchise-best 13-2 start.

Leonys Martin recorded his third three-hit performance in the last six games and Jason Kipnis notched two hits in his second contest of the season as the Indians posted a 4-2 triumph on Tuesday. Cleveland has scored 18 runs in its last three games and is 4-4 entering the finale of its nine-game road trip. Jay Bruce went deep in the eighth inning for the Mariners, who extended their major-league record to 20 consecutive games with a homer to open the season. Seattle has scored a total of nine runs over its last four games after averaging 7.7 over its first 16 contests.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (1-2, 12.60 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Erik Swanson (0-0, 9.00)

Carrasco only recorded two outs in his last turn as he gave up six runs and six hits in a loss to Kansas City. The 32-year-old registered 12 strikeouts over five innings in his lone win on April 6, when he gave up two runs and six hits against Toronto. Carrasco is 4-3 with a 4.10 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against the Mariners and has served up two homers to Bruce (3-for-9).

Swanson will make his first major-league start as he fills the rotation spot of the injured Wade LeBlanc (oblique). The 25-year-old Swanson was acquired in the offseason trade in which James Paxton was sent to the New York Yankees. Swanson gave up two runs and three hits over two innings in his big-league debut against Kansas City on Thursday.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians LHP Brad Hand recorded the save in both games of the series and is 6-for-6 on the season.

2. The Mariners are closing in on the franchise record for consecutive games with a homer at any point of the season - 23 in 2013.

3. Cleveland recalled INF Mike Freeman, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday, from Triple-A Columbus and optioned SS Eric Stamets (2-for-41, 24 strikeouts) to the same affiliate.
