Both teams hit the ground running and both are scoring a ton of points to open the season. Belmont has only played in one game so it’s a bit early to make any kind of judgment call as to scoring. The Blue Raiders have played two games in which they scored 91 against Lees McRae and 102 against Milligan. Taking nothing away from Milligan and Lees, we must point out that these games simply do not count. For all intent and purpose, these first two games of the season for the Raiders have been exhibition games and a warm-up drill against Division III and an NAIA. These games were simply “must win big” type games and they did win them big. They could have won them bigger but what was the point? Belmont won their season opener and the only game they have played to this point, by 11 points over the Illinois State Redbirds. The Redbirds are fairly obscure and in the NCAA basketball world, pretty unheard of, however, they are NCAA Division I so that means every win matters. Belmont had a good season last year but they have had better and they have even made some noise in the NCAA Tournament in the past. They have a tough schedule this year against teams such as UCLA and Purdue, not to mention their own conference which will prove to be a bottleneck for the top spot. This game tonight will be a good one and one that can go to the wire. If you like good shooting and good fundamentals, both of these teams deliver the goods.

ABOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE (2018/19 2-0): The Blue Raiders will face real competition for the first time this season when they take the hardwood against Belmont. The Blue Raiders are averaging 96.5 points per game and allowing 69.5 while shooting 53% from the floor and grabbing 52 rebounds. Antonino Green is the scoring star to this point with 24 ppg and 4 rpg. They will need him to deliver the good tonight and there is no reason that he can’t. Belmont allowed 89 points in their one game this season to an average of 69, over two games for the Raiders. Belmont plays bigger, faster and better than either team that the Raiders have faced but if they make their adjustments early, they will keep up all game long and keep this contest close.

ABOUT BELMONT (2018/19 1-0): The Bruins put together some very nice streaks last season after losing the season opener to the Washington Huskies. They went on to win 4 in a row, then lost 3 in a row to Providence, Lipscomb, and #23 TCU, they beat Green Bay and then immediately lost to Lipscomb again but then won the next 18 of 22 games. They were good down the stretch but not good enough to beat Murray State. Belmont finished the 2017-18 season with a 24-9 record and 15-3 in conference. They beat a lot of teams, a lot of bad teams and a few good teams but they were not good enough to find their way back to the NCAA Tournament. Tonight’s game is a test for this team and most feel they have the firepower to cover.

1. Belmont better bring the defense for this one or they could find the ways of Wichita State!

2. All of the starters can spread the wealth for the Blue Raiders. Don’t go to sleep on this team.

3. Take the over. This will score a lot of points.
