Oregon State and host Stanford will try to rebound from Thursday’s losses when they meet Saturday in Pac-12 Conference action.
The Beavers (11-16, 3-13 Pac-12) are 0-8 in true road games and 0-11 overall away from Corvallis, Ore., following their 81-73 loss at California on Thursday.
Oregon State blew an 11-point second-half lead and allowed California to make 16 shots from 3-point range. The loss was the seventh in a row for the Beavers.
Stanford (12-14, 7-9) lost at home to Oregon 78-65, falling for the third straight time and fifth time in the last six games.
Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle remains four victories shy of reaching 300 career wins in his 17 years of coaching at Montana and Oregon State.
He is 296-265, including 138-174 at Oregon State the last 10 seasons.
After Oregon State went 3-28 in 2021-22 — a year after reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament — Tinkle is trying to rebuild the program. The Beavers finished 11-21 last season.
“This is year two of the rebuild with a lot of freshmen and sophomores and a couple of vets,” he said. “We said to this group, ‘In year two, in year three, we’re really gonna see some things.'”
Jordan Pope led the Beavers with 23 points and four assists against California. Tyler Bilodeau had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Angel led Stanford with 21 points and Spencer Jones had 14 points with four 3-pointers in the loss to Oregon.
Jones moved within two made 3-pointers of the Stanford career record, currently held by Chasson Randle with 304.
Stanford struggled from 3-point range against Oregon, making 8 of 27 (29.6 percent). The Cardinal shot 40.7 percent from the field.
Oregon went to the free-throw line only five times, making four, but the Ducks made 50 percent of their field-goal attempts while converting 12 of 25 shots (48 percent) from beyond the arc.
“I did think our guys’ look in huddles before the game, halftime, was good; they’re excited to play the game, but it was a game where our execution wasn’t where it needed to be,” Stanford coach Jerod Haase said.
