Thursday night is almost here again and with it another week of NFL Thursday Night Football. This Thursday brings us a classic NFC North rivalry game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. This classic rivalry dates back to 1921 and is currently the leagues most played with 194 regular and post-season matchups between the teams.

Video: Brett Favre on the Packers-Bears Rivalry

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (-7 total 45.5) 8:25 pm ET

The Bears travel to take on the Packers at Lambeau Field coming off a huge upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 3 to move to 1-2 on the season. Chicago led 17-7 at halftime only to allow a 2nd half comeback by the Steelers to tie it in regulation. Not to be defeated, the Bears took the initial kickoff of overtime and marched down the field for a touchdown to seal the win.

The Bears attack was led a rushing onslaught from Jordan Howard (23 carries for 138 yards) and Tarik Cohen (12 carries for 78 yards). Big win for the Bears who were 0-2 heading into the contest.

The Packers also picked up a win on Sunday to move to 2-1 as they came from behind to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24 in a game they were expected to win easily. The Packers trailed 21-7 at halftime before storming back late to tie the game and force overtime where they won with a 27 yard Mason Crosby field goal. Green Bay's attack was led by who else but Aaron Rodgers, as he threw for 313 yards passing and three touchdowns. Geronimo Allison almost doubled his career totals by catching 6 balls for 122 yards, while Jordy Nelson hauled in two touchdown grabs.

The Matchup: Throw the Records out the Window

Chicago has been very good running the ball this season as they average 5.0 yard per carry season to date. But as good as their rushing game has been their passing game leaves a lot to be desired as they average only 4.8 yards per pass. This brings the teams overall offensive number to 4.9 yards per play which is on the low side of average for an offense in the NFL. The Bears defense checks in right around average as well ranking 12th in yards per game at 321 per while allowing 23 points per thru the first three weeks.

This Packers team is built to throw, so naturally their offense struggles running the ball, only averaging only 3.5 yards per rush. But having Rodgers under center leading this offense has produced 5.9 yards per pass which is above average compared to the league. Green Bay's defense ranks 18th allowing an average of 22.3 points per game. They get a lot of hype with big names on the roster but overall Green Bay is an average team thus far.

Chicago is 2-6 ATS when they are an underdog on the road since the start of last season but 2-2 ATS as a road underdog of 7 or more. In addition, Bears games have gone under in 8 of the last 9 when they are a road dog of 7 or greater. Recent history shows the Bears are not lighting up the scoreboard in these road dog situations. Packers are also low scoring in these scenarios, going under in 7 of last 9 home games when favored by 7 or more.

Green Bay may get a few players back from injury this week but I’m having a hard time taking them at the current number. I'm looking for a low-scoring Packer victory for Thursday night game.
