The Purdue Boilermakers will travel to take on the #12 Notre Dame Fighting Irish this weekend. This inner-state rivalry will bring intensity and drama to what is still an early-season matchup, but one of vital importance.

This will be the first meeting between the two since 2014 when Notre Dame won 30-14. This victory added to a seven-game winning streak within the matchup, dating back to Purdue’s last victory in 2007. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series 56-26-2.

The game is set to kick off inside Notre Dame Stadium at 2:30 p.m. ET this Saturday, where the home team is favored. The home team could move inside the top-10 with a win, while a loss would be catastrophic.

Purdue vs. Notre Dame Betting Preview

Purdue heads into this matchup having gotten off to an undefeated (2-0) start to its season. The Boilermakers are averaging just under 40 points per game, recently scoring 49 against UConn last weekend. They have also outscored their opponents by 58 points, which is one of the impressive marks in the land.

Jack Plummer is the lead quarterback of four that have thrown a pass this season, notching 558 yards already. However, no player has rushed for over 100 yards, and the team is only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. They will have a tough time improving this mark against a stout ND front-seven.

Purdue’s defense has only managed one sack and two turnovers in two games, but they have forced three additional fumbles. They flattered themselves with a recent shutout over UConn but will be in for their biggest test of the season.

Notre Dame, meanwhile, has also won both of its games, each by three points. This is a small margin for error and did not meet expectations, due to the lesser caliber of their opponents.

The Irish’s offense is led by Wisconsin-transfer QB, Jack Coan, who has hit six touchdowns and two interceptions thus far. Like Purdue, they struggle to run the ball, having only managed 2.7 yards per carry.

The defense is struggling without last year’s NFL talent, but it still has playmakers. Isaiah Foskey has produced three of the 10 sacks for a team that constantly pressures the QB. Purdue will have to deal with him and the Irish’s onslaught of pass-rushers if they want to win the game.

Purdue vs. Notre Dame ATS Pick

While the nature of the rivalry will make the affair close, Notre Dame should come out on top. They are more well-rounded offensively and, although they have won unconvincingly, have beat better opponents.

Purdue’s best chance is to keep the score low and sneak past a loaded defense with occasional big plays. This is unlikely to happen, but Purdue has an outside chance at covering the spread.

Notre Dame needs to win this game to maintain their grasp on the ACC and a potential top-10 spot. Look for Coan to throw for nearly 300 yards as the Irish win by less than two scores.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Notre Dame has won the last seven meetings.

2. Both teams are 2-0 this season.

3. Purdue’s starting running back, Zander Horvath, will not be playing due to injury.

Best Bet: Notre Dame -7 (-115)
