The Detroit Lions head to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers. After a narrow loss from the San Francisco 49ers, the Lions look to capture their first win of the season. The offense in Week 1 battled back and nearly won the game, but the defense allowed 41 points. If the Lions want a chance at beating the Packers on Monday Night Football, they’ll need help from the defense.

The Green Bay Packers are coming off from one of their most uncharacteristic games. They found themselves struggling to compete against the New Orleans Saints and instead lost 38-3. It was a rough-looking game for a Packers team who many thought to be one of the best in the NFC. Unfortunately, they were outcoached on all three levels and have started the season 0-1. This week they have a chance to redeem themselves against an NFC North rival.

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Preview (MNF Week 2)

These two have had a long history together, but the Detroit Lions are led differently this year. For many years the Packers prepared for Matthew Stafford. This year the Detroit Lions have Jared Goff as their starter, who performed well in Week 1. Goff threw 57 passes in Week 1, completing 38 of them for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns. They’ll likely rely on Goff again to take advantage of the Green Bay secondary. After seeing how the secondary performed against the Saints, the Lions probably have a good game plan for Monday night.

Green Bay had an awful game that they’d like to forget. Honestly, it might be best for them to act as if Week 1 never happened. They have the reigning MVP in Aaron Rodgers at the helm, and they need to use him. If they find ways to give him time to throw downfield early on, the Packers will be set for a win. They should also look to involve RB Aaron Jones more, who didn’t see much attention in Week 1. The Packers can’t afford to start their season 0-2.

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Prediction

Lions 28 - Packers 34

The spread in this game is rather daunting, currently at Packers -12. We haven’t seen much offense from the Packers, so 12 points are quite a lot to cover. Take into consideration whether you believe that the Packers are two touchdowns better than Detroit. Pair that with the knowledge that Detroit lost by 8 to the 49ers.

Without a doubt, this game should go in favor of the Green Bay Packers. Even with the Week 1 loss, we all know how much potential the Packers have. The problem isn’t whether they’ll win; it’s whether they can cover. After their showing against the New Orleans Saints, we doubt they’ll cover that many points.

Extra Points

1. Detroit is 4-2 ATS in their last six games.

2. Detroit has gone 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games versus the Packers.

3. Packers LB Za’Darius Smith is on IR and will miss Monday night’s game.

Best Bet: Detroit Lions +12 (-110)
