Eintracht Frankfurt (10-8-11) welcome FC Augsburg (8-8-13) on Saturday at Commerzbank-Arena. After series of poor performances, the guests finally acquired three points, while the hosts are unable to put the crisis to an end for more than two months. In the reverse played back in December both teams settled for a 1-1 draw; at WWK Arena, both goals were scored in the first half – Hrgota found the net for Eintracht while Ji Dong-Won equalized for his team and the final score of 1-1.

FC Augsburg are in the relegation play-off spot despite the victory against FC Koln in the previous round. The team from WWK Arena managed to collect only 32 points throughout the season, meaning they will fight for the survival as the season is coming to a close. The relegation battle in the German top flight will be very unpredictable, since FC Ingolstadt 05, FC Augsburg, 1. FSV Mainz 05, VfL Wolfsburg and even Hamburger SV are all within five points in the lower part of the standings. On the other hand, Eintracht’s Europa League dreams are probably over. They occupy the 10th position with 38 points, but they will still have a chance to reach second-best European club competition through DFB Pokal since they will meet Borussia Monchengladbach in the semi-final.

FC Augsburg

After six Bundesliga matches, FC Augsburg finally broke the curse and grabbed the full prize in the previous round. At WWK Arena, they faced Europa League contender FC Koln; five minutes into the match, Hinteregger opened the scoring for the home team, quickly followed by Verhaegh who found the net from the spot. In the second half, the guests were under control but not a single shot on target was seen, from both sides.

In the 65th minute, Augsburg’s Max put the ball in his own net, but that was not the only worry for the fans at WWK Stadium - Koo Ja-Cheol picked up his second yellow while Finnbogason earned himself a direct red card for unsportsmanlike conduct. FC Augsburg are in poor away form since they were defeated in 4 out of last 5 Bundesliga visits. Their overall away record reads W4 D3 L7 with 11 goals scored and twice as much conceded.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Niko Kovac’s side deepened the crisis on Saturday. At Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund were up 1-0; the impressive American Christian Pulisic sent the perfect pass in the 6-yard box for Marco Reus, who stylishly placed the ball into the net with a cheeky backheel. However, Marco Fabian level the things in the 29th minute, but Sokratis crushed Eintracht’s hopes only five minutes later, setting the halftime score to 2-1.

In the last five minutes of the match, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang increased the lead to 3-1 and confirmed another Frankfurt’s defeat. Eintracht are in horrible shape – they are without a win in 10 matches in Bundesliga. Their last victory at Commerzbank-Arena dates back to February when they bested Darmstadt, the worst team in the league. Since then, they only managed to pick up three points from three draws and two defeats.

Free Kicks

1. FC Augsburg’s hardest defeat this season was at Allianz Arena when Bayern crushed them 6-0.

2. The guests failed to score in the last three Bundesliga visits.

3. Eintracht Frankfurt’s previous three home matches ended without a winner.

The Pick
The guests stepped up in the previous round, but it is unlikely they will pick up another three points in Frankfurt. However, a point from an away match would suit them just perfectly, so they might focus on the defense completely and hope for a draw.
