Celta Vigo (13-5-13) welcome Real Betis (9-7-16) to Estadio de Balaídos on Sunday in a mid-table La Liga clash that sees the sides in 10th and 14th go head to head. The last time these 2 sides met was in December when they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Benito Villamarin. It was an up and down affair in which either side could have come away with 3 points. Spanish striker Iago Aspas grabbed himself 2 more goals for Celta Vigo and Petros was sent off for Real Betis on a day when it took a late equaliser from Facundo Roncaglia to rescue a point for Celta Vigo.
Celta Vigo come into this game in 10th place and 9 points off the Europa League spots. That gap and the amount of teams ahead of them means that they are out of the running for European football next season and their main aim now will be to finish in the top half of the table with Alaves just a point behind them in 11th place. Real Betis are a further 11 points back in 14th place with a 12-point buffer to the relegation zone. The club have little more than pride left to play for this season and it will be a challenge for manager Victor Sanchez to keep his side motivated.
Real Betis come into this game having ended their 3 game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Eibar last time out thanks to goals from Jonas Martin and Daniel Ceballos. It was a much needed win for Victor Sanchez who had seen his side suffer consecutive defeats to Las Palmas, Villarreal and Espanyol and he will be keen to get some form going for the club.
Celta Vigo come into this game in inconsistent form with 3 wins and 2 defeats from their last 5 games. Last time out the club beat Granada CF 3-0 with goals from Jozabed, Marcelo Diaz and Claudio Beauvue giving them a comfortable victory. The win got them back on track following back to back defeats against Valencia CF and Eibar in the 2 games before that. It has been a season of inconsistencies for Celta Vigo and they have struggled to put together a real run of form that could have taken them closer to European qualification.
1. Real Betis have won just 3 games away from home all season and have lost their last 3 games in a row on the road.
2. Only 5 teams have scored more goals than Celta Vigo this season, the current top 4 and Eibar.
3. Iago Aspas remains the top scoring Spaniard in La Liga with 16 goals and only Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo have more goals than the former Liverpool man.
Celta Vigo should have too much for a Real Betis side who have struggled away from home this season and expect goals on Sunday.
