New England Revolution vs. Orlando City SC Recap NOV 29TH 2020

Nani scored two goals and had an assist to rally host Orlando City SC to a 3-3 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Dom Dwyer also scored a goal for the Lions (9-13-9, 36 points), who trailed 3-1 after 41 minutes. Brian Rowe had four saves for Orlando City, which remained four points behind the seventh-place Revolution (10-10-10, 40) for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Cristian Penilla and Gustavo Bou scored goals and Carlos Gil had two assists for New England, which also scored on an own goal by Orlando City midfielder Tesho Akindele. Matt Turner finished with four saves for the Revs, who picked up a point on eighth-place Montreal (11-16-4, 37) which was upset at home by FC Cincinnati 1-0.

New England took a 3-1 halftime lead, scoring its first goal in the 15th minute when Bou's crossing pass into the middle of the box deflected off the side of Akindele in the middle of the box and inside the right post for an own goal.

Nani tied it seven minutes later when he flicked a header from the edge of the six-yard box past Turner and inside the far corner of the net.

Penilla then put the Revolution back in front in the 35th minute with a brilliant one-touch off a long pass from Gil, looping the shot from outside the penalty box over an onrushing Rowe for his fifth goal of the season.

Bou made it 3-1 in the 41st minute with his seventh goal of the season, taking a pass from Gil at the top of the penalty box and then firing a right-footed shot under a defender and inside the left post.

Orlando City then scored two goals in the span of seven minutes early in the second half to tie it. The first came on a header by Dwyer inside the far post off a crossing pass from Nani in the 47th minute. It is Dwyer's sixth goal of the campaign.

Nani then got his brace in the 54th minute when he deked a defender at the top of the penalty box and then fired a left-footed shot inside the right post for his 12th goal of the season.

Gustavo Bou scored two goals and Carles Gil continued his excellent postseason with a penalty-kick score to go with an assist, as the visiting New England Revolution defeated 10-man Orlando City 3-1 in Sunday's MLS Eastern Conference semifinal.

After a disappointing regular season where Bou had just five goals and three assists, the Argentina native now has three goals and an assist in the Revolution's three playoff games.

Gil has scored or assisted on five of New England's seven playoff goals after a foot injury limited him to six regular season appearances.

The eighth-seeded Revolution will visit the Columbus Crew in the conference final next weekend. The Crew defeated Nashville 2-0 in extra time Sunday night.

Junior Urso scored just beyond the half-hour mark to cut Orlando City's early deficit to 2-1, a score that held until Bou found the goal for a second time in the 86th minute.

Orlando City hurt themselves in the second playoff game of their history. Mauricio Pereyra earned a red card in the 60th minute after his cleats caught the back of Matt Polster's leg on a sliding challenge. It was the third red card for the Lions in two playoff matches.

Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner then saved Nani's 74th-minute penalty try after Polster fouled Daryl Dike inside the spot. Turner finished with two saves.

Gil's score from the penalty spot put New England in front 1-0 after 17 minutes. Tajon Buchanan drew the foul when he cut into the right side of the penalty area, then cut back toward the goal line and was tripped by Oriol Rosell's extended right leg.

Referee Alex Chilowicz pointed to the spot immediately, and Gil stepped up to convert his second goal of the playoffs, driving a penalty down the middle as goalkeeper Brian Rowe dove to his right.

Buchanan was the source of New England's second goal nine minutes later, again getting free down the right with an overlapping run. He crossed to the near post where Adam Buksa met the ball with a sliding volley that struck the post and bounded across the face of goal, where Bou put the rebound across the goal line.

Orlando cut the deficit in half seven minutes later, when New England failed to clear Nani's long diagonal cross and Urso sent in an easy finish.

Bou put the match away when he raced onto Gil's through ball and slotted a low finish past Rowe.
