Los Angeles Chargers in 2025

The Chargers finished the 2025 regular season 11-6, 6-3 at home and 5-3 on the road. They scored 368 points and allowed 340. Their biggest win was 37-10 at home to the Vikings, and their heaviest defeat 35-6 away at the Jaguars. In the playoffs they lost to the Patriots 16-3.

Los Angeles Chargers history

The Los Angeles Chargers were founded in 1959 by hotel heir Barron Hilton and were one of the eight original teams of the American Football League (AFL). The team began play in 1960 but relocated to San Diego after just one season due to low attendance. They were renamed the San Diego Chargers and became a significant part of the city’s sports culture.

The Chargers were successful in the AFL, winning the AFL Championship in 1963. After the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Chargers became part of the NFL. Throughout the years, they had various periods of success, notably in the 1980s under quarterback Dan Fouts, known for their high-powered “Air Coryell” offense.

In 2017, after 56 years in San Diego, the Chargers relocated back to Los Angeles. The decision to return to L.A. was controversial among fans but was part of a broader effort to establish a larger fanbase and share the newly built SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams. The Chargers continue to build their identity in L.A., aiming to establish themselves as a major force in the NFL.
