Raiders at Chargers Final Score: Las Vegas Wins Outright in Los Angeles
Las Vegas won 26-14. We took the Raiders and the 6.5, and they did not need the points.
The doubt I had was that Los Angeles won by 7 or more in three of its eight home games last season, so a home blowout was live. It did not happen, and the reason is sitting in the box score: the Chargers turned it over three times and the Raiders once.
Las Vegas outscored them 9-0 in the fourth. The game was 17-14 going into it and the Raiders closed it out rather than letting the Chargers back in, which is the part I had least confidence in when I made the call.
Yards told you almost nothing here. Los Angeles had 310, Las Vegas 305, and both sat at about 5 a play. Three giveaways against one is the entire margin.
The number
Los Angeles closed at -6.5 and the Raiders covered by 18.5. The total closed at 43.5 and the game produced 40, so the under cashed by three and a half.
What we said before kickoff
The prediction below is unchanged, so you can see what was argued and judge it.
Los Angeles won by 7 or more in three of its eight home games last season. Take the Raiders and 6.5.
On 16 September this page had Las Vegas +6.5 and the over 43.5. The Raiders stay. The over goes, and the reason is in the last section.
My bias: I had this bet a day ago at the same number, and holding a position is easier than changing one. Weigh that.
Pick: Las Vegas Raiders +6.5 (-105)
Las Vegas is getting 6.5 points at ten of the eleven books quoting this game, read on 17 September 2026, at prices from -102 to -110. The eleventh has +7 at -120. The same market had the Raiders at +9.5 on 13 September and +7.5 on 14 September.
So the move has already gone three points toward my side. Why take it now? Because at 6.5 the question is whether the Chargers win by 7 or more, and last season they usually didn’t.
Los Angeles went 11-6 in 2025 and outscored its opponents by just 28 points. It won by 7 or more in six of its 17 games. At home it did that three times in eight: 37-10 over Minnesota, 25-10 over Pittsburgh and 31-14 over Las Vegas. Its other two home wins came by 3 each, and it lost the remaining three by 17, 14 and 4. Its 27-21 win over Kansas City was played in Sao Paulo, so it is not counted as a home game.
That is a team that lives in close games. The Chargers went 6-2 in games decided by eight points or fewer, and 6.5 points is a bet that this one is close too.
The case against, and why I overrule it
It is a strong case. Las Vegas went 3-14 last season and was outscored by 191 points. On the road it went 1-7, scoring 11.5 points a game and allowing 27.5, and it lost five of those eight road games by 17 points or more. Twice it scored nothing.
Both 2025 meetings went to Los Angeles by more than this number, too: 20-9 at Las Vegas on 15 September and 31-14 at home on 30 November. The Raiders’ three road games that did stay inside 6.5 were a 20-13 win at New England, a 10-7 loss at Denver and a 23-21 loss at Houston.
I still want the points. This bet needs Los Angeles to win by 6 or fewer, or to lose, and it did one or the other in five of its eight home games. Against a spread of 6.5 that is five covers in eight at home, and the Raiders only need this to be an ordinary Chargers home game.
Week 1, and the division
Week 1 went the Raiders’ way. Las Vegas beat Miami 27-13 at home as a 3-point favourite, leading 17-6 at half-time and 27-13 after three quarters. Los Angeles lost 26-14 at home to Arizona as a 9-point favourite, missing the closing spread by 21, and scored nothing in the second or fourth quarters.
One game each, and I’m not building the bet on it. The Chargers scored 23.5 points a game at home last season, so 14 is a low mark, and one low mark is not a habit.
This is an AFC West game, and neither team played a division game in Week 1. Los Angeles went 5-1 in the division last season, Las Vegas 1-5. Three of the Chargers’ five division wins came by 6 points or fewer: 27-21 over Kansas City in Sao Paulo, 23-20 over Denver at home and 16-13 at Kansas City.
The moneyline
Los Angeles is -303 and Las Vegas +240, the median of eleven books. With the bookmaker’s margin removed, that prices the Chargers to win 71.9% of the time.
Would I take the Raiders to win outright at +240? No. That price needs 29.4% to break even, and Las Vegas won one of eight road games last season. For a team that went 5-3 at home and beat this opponent twice, 71.9% looks about right to me, so the moneyline is a pass.
The price
At -102, the best price at +6.5, the bet needs to win 50.5% of the time to break even. At -105, where three books sit, it needs 51.2%. At -110, where four sit, it needs 52.4%.
The book at +7 wants -120, which needs 54.5%. That extra half point pays only on a Chargers win by exactly 7, and they had one of those in 17 games last season, 27-20 at Tennessee. It is not worth the price.
The Chargers side costs more. Los Angeles -6.5 runs from -105 to -118, and at -118 it needs 54.1% to break even. The book at +7 has the Chargers -7 at even money, 50%, and I would still rather have the points.
Price discipline: +6.5 is a bet at -110 or better. At +6 it is still a bet, because the Chargers won by exactly 6 once last season, 27-21 over Kansas City in Sao Paulo. Below 6 I pass. By then the line would have moved four points from +9.5, and I don’t chase a number that far.
The total: no bet
The total is 43.5 at all eleven books, with the over priced from -102 to -114 and the under from -108 to -115. It was 42.5 on 13 September and 45.5 on 14 September.
I had the over on 16 September and I’ve dropped it. Both teams’ median game last season had 41 points in it. The Raiders’ games went under 43.5 nine times in 17, and the Chargers’ games ten times. The two meetings produced 29 and 45.
Week 1 pointed the same way. Both games finished on 40, the Raiders against a closing total of 40.5 and the Chargers against 47. So is it an under? It leans that way, with Las Vegas scoring 11.5 a game on the road last season. It does not lean far enough for me to bet it. The under needs 51.9% to 53.5% at those prices, and counting the two meetings once, 18 of the two teams’ 32 games last season went under, a little over 56%. That is too thin an edge on 32 games.
What changes it
The spread dropping below +6. That is my pass number, and I will hold it.
A +7 coming back at -110 or better. That is the same bet with last season’s one 7-point Chargers win covered, and I would take it over +6.5.
And read both injury reports before you bet. Nothing in this piece says who is available on Sunday 20 September.
