Steelers vs Saints prediction: Take the Saints +3
Take the Saints +3. My number has Pittsburgh by less than a point, and the books want three.
New Orleans is 0-3 at home this season, and I’m still taking the points. Is Pittsburgh really a field goal better than New Orleans in New Orleans? Last season’s numbers say less than one point, and this season’s say the same. Pittsburgh Steelers at New Orleans Saints kicks off Sunday 25 October 2026 at 9:30 am ET.
The prices: Pittsburgh by three
I read 11 books at 13:40 UTC on 23 October 2026. Seven have Pittsburgh -3 and four have Pittsburgh -3.5, so the median is Saints +3. The Pittsburgh side of the spread is priced between -120 and +105 across those books. On the moneyline the median is Pittsburgh -179 and New Orleans +150.
A book builds in a margin, an extra that makes its two prices add up to more than 100% once you turn them into chances. Take the margin out and the moneyline gives Pittsburgh a 61.6% chance to win and New Orleans 38.4%.
The spread has climbed. The first line I have, read on 19 October at 03:10 UTC, was Pittsburgh -1.5. It was -2 by 16:10 UTC that day and -2.5 by 20:10 UTC. On 23 October it reached -3, and -3.5 at four books.
How Pittsburgh by 0.15 is reached
The method for the side is short. Take each team’s points differential per game, meaning points scored minus points allowed, averaged over the season. Take half the gap between the two teams, then add 2.5 points to the home team for home field.
In the 2025 regular season New Orleans was -4.53 a game and Pittsburgh +0.59. Half that gap, with 2.5 back to New Orleans at home, leaves Pittsburgh by 0.06. Against Saints +3 that is an edge of 2.94 points.
This season gives the same answer. New Orleans has scored 152 and allowed 178 in six games, -4.33 a game. Pittsburgh has scored 137 and allowed 128 in six games, +1.5 a game. That version has Pittsburgh by 0.42. Blend the two seasons by games played and it’s Pittsburgh by 0.15, an edge of 2.85 on the Saints.
My threshold is two points, on 2025 and on the blend, both pointing the same way. Below two I pass, because season rates carry more error than that. Both numbers clear it, and the smaller one is 2.85.
Steelers on the road, Saints at home
The method uses full-season differentials and a flat 2.5 for home field. It does not use home and road splits, and those splits leave out neutral-site games. Here is what it leaves out. In 2025 New Orleans went 3-5 at home, scoring 17.6 a game and allowing 19.4. On the road the Saints went 3-6 and allowed 25.3.
Pittsburgh was 4-4 on the road in 2025, scoring 23.2 and allowing 24.2. At home the Steelers went 5-3 and allowed 21.5. My read: the Saints defence travelled badly last year and held up at home, and the Steelers defence did the reverse. If anything, the splits lean my way.
This season the splits point the other way, and that is the risk. New Orleans is 0-3 at home: beaten 35-27 by Las Vegas, 45-24 by Atlanta and 23-13 by Minnesota. On the road the Saints lost 31-30 at Detroit, then won 24-17 at Baltimore and 34-27 at the Giants. Pittsburgh is 3-0 at home and 1-2 away, losing 20-3 at New England and 27-24 at Cleveland before winning 26-19 at Tampa Bay. Three games a side is not a rate, and I won’t bet on it.
This season against the number
Records and spread results sit outside my number. New Orleans covered all three road games: +7 at Detroit, +8.5 at Baltimore, and at the Giants with New York closing +1. Las Vegas, Atlanta and Minnesota all covered in New Orleans.
Pittsburgh covered as a home favourite against Atlanta (-6) and Indianapolis (-3), as a home underdog against Cincinnati (+3.5), and at Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers closing +1.5. The Steelers failed to cover at New England, closing +5, and at Cleveland, where the Browns closed +3.
The 2025 season around it
Pittsburgh went 10-7 with a points differential of +10. The Steelers were 7-3 in one-score games and 4-2 in the AFC North, then lost a home Wild Card game 30-6 to Houston. My view: a 10-7 record on +10 leans hard on that 7-3 in close games, and the spread is pricing the record.
New Orleans went 6-11 at -77, with a 3-5 mark in one-score games and 3-3 in the NFC South. There are no meetings between these two in 2025 or 2026 to weigh. No head-to-head game moves my number.
Pick: Saints +3
Saints +3, on a smallest edge of 2.85 points against a threshold of two. Seven of 11 books have +3. Four have +3.5, the same bet at a better number, so shop for it. The Pittsburgh side runs from -120 to +105 across the books, read at 13:40 UTC on 23 October 2026.
The first line I have was Pittsburgh -1.5 on 19 October. It has moved a point and a half since, and my number hasn’t moved at all.
What kills the bet
The price first. New Orleans is a bet at +2.15 or better: +2.5, +3 and +3.5 all qualify. At +2 I pass. Pittsburgh only becomes the bet at +1.94 or better, which means the Steelers getting points.
My number does not account for who is out on Sunday. Check the injury report and the lineups before you bet, and check the price again.
The total and the moneyline: no bet
The total method gives each team the average of its own points scored per game and its opponent’s points allowed. On 2025 that is Pittsburgh 22.95 and New Orleans 20.4, a total of 43.35, which is 1.15 under the 44.5 market. On 2026 alone it is 49.58. The blend is 44.98, 0.48 over. The two point opposite ways and neither reaches two. No bet.
Seven books have 44.5, three have 45 and one has 44. The total was 40.5 on 8 September and has climbed to 44.5. The under becomes a bet at 46.98 or higher and the over at 41.35 or lower. In 2025, 13 of the Saints’ games stayed under this total and 11 of Pittsburgh’s went over. This season four of six have gone over for each team.
The moneyline is context. New Orleans at +150 prices a 38.4% chance to win, and I stake the spread. The bet is the three points.
Pick: Saints +3.
