Our number has Florida by 1.1. At Florida -3.5, no bet.
No. 21 Florida is a 3.5-point favourite over No. 4 Ole Miss at DraftKings. Our number is Florida by 1.1. The gap is 2.4 points, and the threshold for a bet here is 3. That is short of it, so this is a pass.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Florida is 4-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 8.7 points a game across 6 games. Ole Miss is 3-1 on the road against FBS teams, winning by 6.5 a game across 4 games. The difference is 2.2 points. Half of it is 1.1.
These are thin samples, six games and four, and they prove very little on their own. Florida has played one home game against an FBS team this season, and Ole Miss has not played a road game at all: its 41-38 win over Louisville was at a neutral site, and the method leaves it out.
The two records behind it
Florida’s six home games against FBS teams split wide. It beat Florida Atlantic 66-21 and Florida State 40-21, and it lost 31-11 to Tennessee and 18-16 to South Florida.
Ole Miss’s four road games were all in 2025. It won 30-23 at Kentucky, 34-26 at Oklahoma and 38-19 at Mississippi State, and lost 43-35 at Georgia.
Neither record is big enough to carry a bet on its own. Together they put Florida 1.1 points better, and the market has it 3.5 better.
2026 so far
Both teams are 3-0. Florida beat Florida Atlantic 66-21, Campbell 52-3 (a team outside the FBS) and Auburn 44-39 on the road on 19 September. Against its two FBS opponents it scored 55.0 a game and allowed 30.0.
Ole Miss beat Louisville 41-38, Charlotte 41-9 and LSU 32-24, the last two at home. It has scored 38.0 a game and allowed 23.7.
Last season
The 2025 records are far apart. Ole Miss went 13-2 and won by 15.9 a game, 9-0 at home. Florida went 4-8, lost by 2.4 a game, and went 0-5 on the road.
They met on 15 November 2025 at Ole Miss, and Ole Miss won 34-24. The method does not use that game for either side: it was a road game for Florida and a home game for Ole Miss.
The price
Florida opened at -1.5 and is -3.5 now, read 23 September 2026 at 08:59 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. That is a 2-point move toward Florida. Ole Miss +3.5 is priced at -120; Florida -3.5 is priced at +100.
The moneyline has Florida at -148 and Ole Miss at +124, from -115 and -105 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Florida to win 57.2% of the time. ESPN’s FPI has Florida at 53.2%.
Our number, the market and ESPN’s FPI all have Florida as the slightly likelier winner. The spread sits 2.4 points past our number, and 2 of those came after the open.
Pick: no bet at Florida -3.5
No bet. Our number is Florida by 1.1 and the line is 3.5, a gap of 2.4.
It becomes a bet at Ole Miss +4.5, where the gap is 3.4. At +4 it is 2.9, still a pass. On the other side it would take Florida getting 2 points for Florida to be a bet, a gap of 3.1.
What changes it
A line move to Ole Miss +4.5, or to Florida +2. Neither is close to the current 3.5.
Availability is the other thing, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you bet.
The call on 16 September
The first version of this prediction, published 16 September before any line was posted, said:
“Ole Miss is ranked 8th and Florida isn’t. I’m taking the Gators.”
“Pick: Florida to win (no line posted yet)”
“Price discipline: none yet. If Florida is getting points when the line posts, I will take them.”
Its condition was Florida getting points. Florida opened as a 1.5-point favourite and is 3.5 now, so the condition never came up. Our number agrees with the side, Florida by 1.1. The price is the problem: 3.5 is 2.4 more than our number, and the threshold is 3. The call is now no bet.
That page also said it would look again if Ole Miss beat LSU and Florida lost at Auburn. Ole Miss beat LSU 32-24. Florida won 44-39 at Auburn.
The total
The total opened at 57.5 and is 58.5 now, over -115 and under -105.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Florida’s games went over 58.5 in 3 of 13, and Ole Miss’s in 6 of 17. Both are under half. Florida’s two FBS games this season went the other way, at 87 and 83 points.
A lean to the under at 58.5. No bet.
