The second of two games in Brooklyn in three days. Take New York at -1 or better.
No book had a line on this game when I read the market at 16:15 UTC on 21 September, so this piece gives the price I would pay. My number is New York by 2.25. The same two teams meet at Barclays Center on Monday, and nothing here uses that result; every figure runs through Sunday 20 September.
The number
Both teams have winning records, so my figure takes New York’s home games against winning teams and Atlanta’s road games against winning teams, and halves the difference between the two average margins.
New York is 5-5 in its ten and wins by 2.5 on average. Atlanta is 5-6 in its eleven and loses by 2.0. That makes New York by 2.25.
I play a side when my number and the price are at least a point apart. New York is a bet at -1, at a pick’em or getting points, and a pass at -1.5 or longer. ESPN’s matchup predictor has New York at 55.8%.
What is different from Monday
The rest. On Monday New York plays the day after a game in Toronto, and Atlanta comes in off a day’s rest. By Wednesday both teams will have had Tuesday off.
