Our number has Louisiana by 6.6. At +10, take Charlotte, with no room to spare.
Louisiana opened as a 14.5-point favourite at Charlotte and is 10 now at DraftKings. Our number is Louisiana by 6.6. The gap is 3.4 points, and the threshold for a bet here is 3.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Charlotte is 0-5 at home against FBS teams over that span, losing by 23.6 points a game across 5 games. Louisiana is 2-5 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 10.4 a game across 7 games. The difference is 13.2 points in Louisiana’s favour. Half of it is 6.6.
Charlotte’s five home games are all from 2025. Its one home game this season was a 43-41 loss to The Citadel, a team outside the FBS, which the method does not count.
Charlotte at home
This is the weak side of the argument, and it is weak. Charlotte lost 20-3 to North Carolina, 28-17 to Rice, 49-14 to Temple, 54-20 to North Texas and 28-7 to UTSA, all at home in 2025. It went 1-11 that season and 0-11 against FBS teams.
The pick does not rest on Charlotte being good. It rests on Louisiana being poor on the road, and on a price that has already moved 4.5 points.
Louisiana on the road
Louisiana lost 52-10 at Missouri, 34-31 at Eastern Michigan, 24-14 at James Madison and 35-23 at Troy in 2025. It won 31-22 at South Alabama and 34-30 at Arkansas State. On 12 September it lost 49-30 at USC.
Five of those seven were losses. Of the two wins, neither came by more than 9, and the spread asks for 10 or more.
2026 so far
Louisiana is 2-1. It beat Lamar 38-7, a team outside the FBS, lost at USC and beat UAB 21-14 at home on 19 September. Against its two FBS opponents it has scored 25.5 a game and allowed 31.5.
Charlotte is 0-3. After the loss to The Citadel it lost 41-9 at Ole Miss and 26-21 at App State. Against FBS teams it has scored 15.0 a game and allowed 33.5. The five-point loss at App State is its closest FBS result in the two seasons.
Last season
Louisiana went 6-7 in 2025 and was outscored by 3.2 a game. It ended with a 20-13 loss to Delaware on 17 December. Charlotte was outscored by 22.0 a game.
The two teams did not meet in 2025 or so far in 2026.
The price
Charlotte opened at +14.5 and is +10 now, read 24 September 2026 at 04:29 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. That is a 4.5-point move toward Charlotte. Both sides are priced at -110.
The moneyline has Louisiana at -410 and Charlotte at +320, from -650 and +470 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Louisiana to win 77.2% of the time. ESPN’s FPI has Louisiana at 70%.
Louisiana is the likelier winner by all three measures. The disagreement is 3.4 points of margin, and it has been shrinking.
Pick: Charlotte +10
Charlotte +10 at -110. The gap is 3.4 points against a 3-point threshold.
It rests on 12 games, split 5 and 7. At the open, +14.5, the gap was 7.9. Most of the edge has already been taken by the move.
What changes it
Any further move toward Charlotte. At Charlotte +10 the gap is 3.4 and the bet stands. At +9.5 it is 2.9, and the call becomes a pass. Do not take less than 10.
Availability is the other thing, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you bet.
The total
The total opened at 52.5 and is 48.5 now, over -112 and under -108. That is a 4-point drop.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Charlotte’s games went over 48.5 in 5 of 13, and Louisiana’s in 9 of 14. Louisiana’s two FBS games this season produced 79 and 35 points. Charlotte’s produced 50 and 47.
Pass on the total at 48.5. The two samples pull in opposite directions.
