Our number has UConn winning by 0.6. At +3.5, take UConn.
Miami (OH) opened as a 3-point favourite over UConn at DraftKings and is 3.5 now. Our number has the visitor winning, by 0.6. The gap is 4.1 points, and the threshold for a bet here is 3.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Miami (OH) is 3-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 4.0 points a game across 5 games. UConn is 4-3 on the road against FBS teams, winning by 5.1 a game across 7 games. The difference is 1.1 points in UConn’s favour. Half of it, rounded, is 0.6.
Both samples are thin. All five of Miami (OH)’s home games are from 2025. One of UConn’s seven road games is from 2026, and it is the one this call leans on.
One game carries it
UConn won 48-20 at Southern Miss on 19 September. That 28-point win is the largest margin in its road sample. Take it out and UConn’s road average drops to 1.3 across 6 games, our number becomes Miami (OH) by 1.3, and the gap falls to 2.2. That is a pass.
So the bet stands on one result. The rest of UConn’s road games were close: 20-17 at Buffalo, 48-45 at Florida Atlantic, 38-23 at Boston College, and three losses by 7 or fewer, 27-20 at Syracuse, 44-41 at Delaware and 37-34 at Rice.
Miami (OH)’s home games were mixed. It beat Eastern Michigan 44-30, Western Michigan 26-17 and Ball State 45-24, and lost 41-38 to UNLV and 24-3 to Toledo.
2026 so far
Miami (OH) is 1-2. It lost 59-14 at Pittsburgh, beat Holy Cross, a team outside the FBS, 45-7, and lost 35-31 at Cincinnati on 19 September. Against its two FBS opponents it has been outscored by 24.5 a game.
UConn is 2-1. It beat Lafayette, a team outside the FBS, 56-7, lost 38-14 at home to Maryland, and then won at Southern Miss. Against FBS teams it has scored 31.0 a game and allowed 29.0.
This is a non-conference game. UConn is an FBS independent and Miami (OH) plays in the Mid-American Conference.
Last season
UConn went 9-4 in 2025 and won by 8.3 points a game, and finished with a 41-16 loss to Army on 27 December at a neutral site. Miami (OH) went 7-7 and won by 1.8 a game.
Miami (OH)’s 2025 ended with two neutral-site losses: 23-13 to Western Michigan, then 18-3 to Fresno State on 27 December. The two teams did not meet in 2025 or 2026.
The price
Miami (OH) opened at -3 and is -3.5 now, read 24 September 2026 at 04:29 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. That is half a point toward Miami (OH). UConn +3.5 is priced at -112, Miami (OH) -3.5 at -108.
The moneyline has Miami (OH) at -175 and UConn at +145, from -148 and +124 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Miami (OH) to win 60.9% of the time. ESPN’s FPI has UConn at 50.3%, a coin flip leaning the other way.
The market makes Miami (OH) the winner. FPI and our number make UConn the slight winner, and the disagreement with the spread is 4.1 points.
Pick: UConn +3.5
UConn +3.5 at -112. The gap is 4.1 points against a 3-point threshold, 1.1 points clear of it.
It rests on 12 games, split 5 and 7, and without the win at Southern Miss it would be a pass.
What changes it
A small line move back toward the open still leaves a bet. At UConn +2.5 the gap is 3.1 and the bet stands. At +2 it is 2.6, and the call becomes a pass.
Availability is the other thing, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you bet.
The total
The total opened at 50.5 and is 51.5 now, over and under both -110, as read at DraftKings. That is a 1-point rise.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, UConn’s games went over 51.5 in 11 of 14, and Miami (OH)’s in 7 of 15. Together that is 18 of 29. Miami (OH)’s two FBS games this season produced 73 and 66 points; UConn’s produced 52 and 68.
Lean over 51.5. It is a lean and no more: Miami (OH)’s games split close to even, and the lean rests mostly on UConn’s sample.
